Two weeks after welcoming her third child, Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have unveiled a name filled with royal history, family memories and a special connection to Portugal

 

Princess Eugenie has finally revealed the name of her newborn daughter — and one part of it is a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Two weeks after welcoming their third child, Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced that their baby girl is named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

The couple welcomed their daughter on August 3 in Lisbon, Portugal, where the family spends part of the year.

Eugenie shared several photographs of the newborn on Instagram, including an especially sweet picture of Adelaide with her older brothers, August and Ernest.

“2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world,” Eugenie wrote, describing the time since her birth as “the most special, cosy and love-filled” period.

But it was the explanation behind the name that caught royal fans’ attention.

Eugenie said Adelaide was “named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.”

That “Great-Grandmother” is Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022 after a historic 70-year reign.

The tribute is particularly meaningful given how close Eugenie was to her grandmother. Elizabeth has already been honored in the names of numerous members of the younger generation of the Royal Family, including Princess Charlotte, Lena Tindall, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and Athena Mapelli Mozzi.

Even Harry and Meghan chose to honor the late monarch when they named their daughter Lilibet — Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname.

But Adelaide carries another royal connection.

The name has historic links to Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV, and Eugenie reportedly has her own connection to the royal figure. At her 2018 wedding to Jack Brooksbank, Eugenie wore diamond ear brooches that had originally been commissioned for Queen Adelaide.

The Portuguese connection is equally significant.

Eugenie explained that her daughter’s name reflects “English and Portuguese history”, acknowledging the two countries the family considers home.

The baby was born in Lisbon, weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces, and her arrival was officially announced by the Royal Family the following day.

Then there is Annina, the most mysterious part of the name.

According to royal reporter Rebecca English, the middle name comes from a personal connection to Eugenie and Jack, although further details have not been revealed.

For now, the family is simply enjoying life with their newest arrival.

Eugenie and Jack are already parents to five-year-old August and three-year-old Ernest, who their mother says have wasted no time embracing their new role as big brothers.

And with a name that brings together Queen Elizabeth, English royal history and Portugal, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank may already have one of the most meaningful names among the newest generation of the Royal Family.
