Tipping Point Fans Stunned as Contestant Admits She ‘Can’t Name Any Scottish Cities’

A Tipping Point contestant left viewers stunned when she admitted she could not name a single Scottish city while facing a question about the University of Strathclyde.

Viewers baffled as Tipping Point contestant can't name single Scottish city and thinks Strathclyde Uni is in 'Stratham'

Bethany found herself in the spotlight during Monday’s episode of Ben Shephard’s ITV quiz show after giving an answer that quickly became a talking point on Twitter.

The question was straightforward: “In which Scottish city is the University of Strathclyde?”

Another contestant was given the option to answer or pass the question to Bethany. When it was passed to her, Ben gave her plenty of time to think.

“You can think of as many Scottish cities you like before you give me the one that you want to be your answer,” he told her.

Bethany’s response left both Ben and viewers stunned.

‘I Don’t Actually Know Any’

“I don’t actually know any,” she admitted.

Ben looked visibly surprised, but Bethany decided to take a guess anyway.

“Um… Stratham? Is that even a place? I’m just going to go for it. That is what it is,” she said.

The answer was, of course, not correct. The other contestant had suggested Glasgow, while the University of Strathclyde is based in Glasgow.

Yet Bethany’s admission that she could not think of any Scottish cities quickly became the bigger talking point.

Viewers Couldn’t Believe the Answer

With Edinburgh and Glasgow among Scotland’s most prominent cities, viewers wasted little time reacting to the unusual moment.

One viewer wrote: “As an aficionado of The Chase, I watched this through my fingers, whilst screaming.”

Another simply commented: “Good grief, the ignorance.”

The moment quickly spread across social media, with viewers poking fun at Bethany’s attempt to invent a city on the spot.

The University Joins In

The University of Strathclyde itself even joined the conversation.

Its social media team retweeted the clip and responded with a simple but effective: “Stratham?!”

The University of Strathclyde Library and IT team also got involved, joking:

“BRB, just off to move the Library to Stratham, New Hampshire. Won’t take me long!”

What began as an ordinary question on Tipping Point therefore became one of those unforgettable quiz-show moments that viewers could not resist discussing online.

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
