The Chase Fans Left Crying With Laughter After Contestant’s “Decorative Knobs” Comment

A seemingly innocent question about ceramics turned into one of the funniest moments on The Chase when contestant Reece delivered a cheeky answer that left Bradley Walsh struggling to keep a straight face.

The London-based 29-year-old writer and performer was facing veteran Chaser Paul Sinha, better known as The Sinnerman, when Bradley presented him with a question that proved impossible to resist joking about.

The question was simple enough: “In ceramics, what is a finial?”

The three possible answers were an ornate spout, a relief panel or a decorative knob.

Reece went with the final option—and then made the entire studio erupt.

Reece turns a quiz question into a comedy moment

After choosing “decorative knob,” Reece admitted that he was far from certain he had selected the correct answer.

But rather than simply move on, he decided to make the most of the wording.

“I know quite a lot about decorative knobs,” Reece joked.

The comment immediately sent the studio into laughter, with Bradley Walsh visibly struggling to maintain his composure.

Paul Sinha also joined in with the joke, responding that “we all do.”

But Reece wasn’t finished.

“I have no idea, but if I’m gonna go home I’d like it to be on a decorative knob,” he added.

That was enough to completely derail the moment, with the audience and the contestants laughing as Bradley tried to regain control of the show. The exchange was later widely shared online as viewers praised Reece for turning an ordinary question into an unexpectedly memorable television moment.

Bradley Walsh has one message for Reece

Eventually, Bradley decided he had to intervene.

The presenter called Reece over and, lowering his voice in mock seriousness, delivered a warning:

“Don’t come on here ruining my show.”

The comment only made the situation funnier, prompting another burst of laughter from the studio.

For Reece, however, the joke had an even better ending—because his supposedly random answer turned out to be correct.

The term finial can indeed refer to a decorative knob or ornament, meaning Reece had managed to combine a cheeky joke with a winning answer.

The answer was worth £7,000

The moment came while Reece was fighting to bring money back to his team.

According to reports from the episode, he was two steps away from safety and was attempting to protect a £7,000 prize from The Sinnerman.

His correct answer ultimately helped him return to the team with the money.

The episode featured Reece alongside teammates Nesta, David and Andrea. The group eventually faced the Final Chase with a combined score of 17, while Paul Sinha managed to reach 15 before the clock ran out. The team therefore escaped with £7,000, which was shared among three members after the earlier rounds.

Reece later said he planned to spend his share of the winnings on a trip to Sweden.

Viewers couldn’t get enough of the moment

The exchange quickly became a talking point among The Chase viewers, with fans taking to social media to celebrate Reece’s sense of humour.

One viewer joked: “I bet you know a lot about decorative knobs #TheChase.”

Another wrote: “‘I know a lot about decorative knobs’ I’m in tears #TheChase.”

Others praised Reece more generally, with one viewer describing him as one of the best players they had seen in a long time and adding: “Very funny man! Decorative knob!”

The humour was exactly the sort of unexpected moment that has become part of The Chase’s appeal. Even when the contestants are under pressure to beat the Chaser, an unusual question or quick-witted response can suddenly turn the quiz into comedy.

And on this occasion, Reece’s timing was almost as impressive as his general-knowledge skills.

Most importantly, his joke did not cost him the game. He picked the correct answer, secured the money and left Bradley Walsh with perhaps the only option available to him—telling the contestant to stop “ruining” his show while trying not to laugh himself.
