Jared Padalecki is walking back his support of controversial gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

Over the weekend, the Supernatural star publicly reached out to Hilton, who was hospitalized on Tuesday after appearing to harm himself during a TikTok livestream. Padalecki has previously been open about his own mental health struggles and battle with suicidal ideation, and drew on that experience while offering moral support via social media.

“Hey @PerezHilton. Just wanted to reach out and let you know that you’re in my thoughts,” Padalecki wrote Saturday on X. “This ‘being human’ is a strange thing. Exhilarating. Exhausting. Fast. Slow. Wonderful…. And… at times… awful. I hope you are trying as best as you can to be kind to yourself right now.”

He added, “Please surround yourself with the love and support that all humans deserve. This too shall pass. You got this.”

On Sunday, Padalecki deleted the post after commenters alerted him to Hilton’s complicated history as a tabloid blogger — which has included coverage of Padalecki’s own personal life.

“I didn’t know,” the actor wrote on X. “It’s been brought to my attention. I’m sorry.”

Padalecki further explained himself with a follow-up post that came half an hour later, writing that he had “absolutely no idea” about Hilton’s reputation when he penned the original message.

“I had heard of him. Obviously. I had heard that he hadn’t exactly ‘been kind’ to me in the past,” the actor wrote. “So, my thought is always to give grace and forgiveness to those who may have tried to ‘harm’ you… in my experience, it usually works out better than holding a grudge or wishing punishment on someone else.”

Padalecki has long been vocal about his mental health struggles. He previously spoke about being diagnosed with depression on the set of Supernatural and in 2024, revealed that he once checked into a clinic after suffering from “dramatic suicidal ideation.” In 2015, he launched “Always Keep Fighting,” a mental health awareness campaign supporting people facing depression, addiction, and self-harm.

The actor continued, “That having been said, I TRULY didn’t know ANYTHING about the extent to what he has done. That’s my bad. On my life, I have never in my life, not once, looked him up or gone to one of his sites. I simply thought he was a ‘tabloid’ type of sensationalist journalist. I DO NOT stand for, or support, ANY of the actions I just now found out that he has committed. Full stop.”

Padalecki concluded, “I’m sorry if my words caused any harm. And, I hope you ALL are well out there, and taking care of yourselves.”

On Aug. 4, clips of Hilton, 48, naked, covered in blood, and grunting while he dragged a knife across his skin began to circulate on social media. They stemmed from a TikTok livestream which was pulled from the platform after multiple calls were made to local police. Deputies also arrived at Hilton’s Miami home, and he was ultimately transported to a local hospital to receive medical attention.

The latest update from his family and team confirmed that Hilton remains hospitalized in “serious but stable“ condition after experiencing “significant blood loss” and sustaining “injuries that will require surgery in the coming days.”

Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., Hilton is best known for his tabloid coverage of celebrities and for founding the gossip blog PerezHilton.com. He became notorious for his crass coverage, which included coining insulting nicknames for several big stars, openly speculating about pregnancies and health issues, and mocking stars dealing with their own mental health struggles. He was repeatedly slammed as “cruel“ and criticized by the LGBTQ+ community for outing queer celebrities.

In March 2026, Hilton apologized for his “selfish” behavior as a blogger after suffering a serious health scare. At the time, he promised to do things differently going forward. Since his hospitalization, several stars once harmed by Hilton’s coverage of them have wished him well in his recovery, including Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland and America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry.
