Newly released classified US documents reveal that 13 fighter jets were deployed to pursue a UFO in an undisclosed area.
The Disclosure Foundation, a non-profit organization in the US advocating for increased transparency regarding unidentified flying objects (UFOs), has publicly released a large number of top-secret files from the National Security Agency (NSA), detailing a series of UFO encounters.
All files are marked with the code word “Umbra,” the NSA’s top-secret code. The Disclosure Foundation obtained these classified documents after winning an appeal related to the Freedom of Information Act.
The files contain witness accounts of unexplained sightings, as well as radar tracking data and incidents involving military aircraft. One document describes that 13 fighter jets were deployed to pursue a mysterious unidentified object in the sky.
However, information regarding the time, location, and witnesses of the incident was obscured by the NSA. Many other sections of the document were also censored by being redacted, leaving the outcome of the pursuit unclear.
In other reports, documents indicate that Soviet-made fighter jets were also deployed to pursue mysterious objects in the sky.
In radar tracking data reports, UFOs are described as star-shaped, spherical, or resembling “fireballs.”
“The object moved up and down at very high speeds and at very high altitudes,” and emitted white light, according to one document about a suspected UFO encounter.
Other documents describe an object with two yellow lights moving at a low altitude, silently changing direction from north to west, and an object emitting a “22-meter-long beam of light, radiating in a spiral from a black center.” Another record mentions a UFO “spherical or disc-shaped” and brighter than the sun.
These documents were made public a few days before the Pentagon released 222 declassified documents on UFOs on May 22, including an audio recording of the Apollo 12 crew recounting seeing a mysterious “light” while trying to sleep in deep space.
The U.S. Department of Defense also released 160 UFO documents in the first batch on May 8, at the request of President Donald Trump.
Former US President Barack Obama caused a stir in February with his statement that “aliens are real” on a podcast. Although he has since clarified the situation, many still consider it “the biggest slip of the tongue that has ever revealed a secret.”
In the US, reviewing UFO records is not unprecedented. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the 1990s examined all its collected data and concluded that the majority of UFOs were actually top-secret reconnaissance aircraft. However, such official conclusions have not satisfied the UFO community.
