Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has reportedly turned down an invitation from King Charles to join the Royal Family at Balmoral, amid claims he feels increasingly isolated from his relatives.

According to a friend quoted by The Sun, Andrew believes there is little point in travelling to Scotland if he will feel like “the elephant in the room” among other members of the family.

“He feels like he is no longer part of the family,” the source reportedly claimed, adding that Andrew had been invited but had “no great desire” to attend because he feared being treated as an outcast.

The reported decision comes as up to 30 members of the Royal Family are expected to gather at Balmoral over the coming weeks for their traditional summer retreat.

For Andrew, however, the atmosphere could be very different from previous years.

The former Duke of York is understood to have spent time at Balmoral last summer, but his position within the family has changed dramatically since then. He has faced renewed scrutiny over his past association with Jeffrey Epstein and has been removed from several aspects of royal life.

Andrew has consistently denied wrongdoing.

He now lives at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk after leaving Royal Lodge, with reports suggesting that he has become increasingly isolated from other members of his family.

Sources have claimed that even his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, have avoided visiting his new home, while Prince Edward is reportedly the only one of his brothers to have visited him there.

The reported Balmoral snub therefore adds another dramatic chapter to Andrew’s increasingly complicated relationship with the Royal Family.

Balmoral has long been one of the places where the Windsors traditionally put royal duties aside and spend time together as a family. The private Scottish estate allows relatives to escape the spotlight, with days often involving walks, fishing and informal gatherings.

But this year, Andrew may reportedly be choosing to stay away rather than risk feeling excluded from those family moments.
