Ranvir Singh was left crying “That’s unfair!” during a tense episode of Tipping Point: Lucky Stars after the famous machine appeared to tease contestants with a potential drop—only for nothing to fall.
The celebrity edition brought Good Morning Britain journalist Ranvir Singh, former Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and comedian London Hughes into the studio, where they faced host Ben Shephard and the notoriously unpredictable machine.
While Gareth eventually found his rhythm after making a few mistakes, his progress through the game was anything but straightforward.

Gareth chooses Drop Zone Two
After London Hughes accumulated the lowest total in the opening round, the competition became a head-to-head battle between Ranvir and Gareth.
When it was Gareth’s turn to play the machine, he opted for Drop Zone Two.
“I’ll try number two,” he told Ben.
“Okay, let’s do it. Drop zone number two please,” Ben replied.
As the counter entered the machine, Ben provided his usual running commentary.
“In we go… steadier drop now, that sliver counter might cause you a problem. Could rise, tragedy. Might get a little squeeze here.”

But when the counter failed to trigger the expected drop, Gareth was understandably confused.
“What’s happened then?” he asked.
Ben reassured him that there was still plenty of opportunity to recover.
“Okay, not to worry, still got three more to go. Staying with Drop Zone Two, Gareth?” he asked.
“Yes please, Drop Zone Two please,” Gareth replied.

Ranvir thinks the machine has been unfair
Gareth tried again, and this time things initially looked more promising.
“Here we go. That’s better, good settle there. And across the Tipping Point, is it going to go?” Ben said as another counter moved toward the edge.
“One drop in,” Ben confirmed before asking Gareth whether he wanted to remain with Drop Zone Two.
His next attempt produced nothing.
With two counters still available, the tension began to build.
Then one of the counters appeared to tease everyone watching. It moved in a way that made it look as though several counters could potentially be pushed over the tipping point.
But nothing happened.
Ranvir immediately reacted to the frustrating moment.
“That’s unfair!” she exclaimed.
For a moment, it looked as though Gareth’s luck with the machine might cost him dearly.

Gareth fights his way to the final
Fortunately for Gareth, the bad run did not last.
Despite the frustrating drops, he managed to accumulate £2,900, putting him ahead of Ranvir’s £2,300 and securing his place in the final.
His competitive spirit became even more apparent as the game progressed and he fought for the chance to win the jackpot counter.
By the time the final questions arrived, Gareth had built his total to £5,600.
“We’ve got a little bit of room on the jackpot counter, but you’ve only got one category left,” Ben told him.
Gareth answered the final question correctly, earning three more counters.
But even with the additional counters, he could not shift the all-important jackpot counter from the machine.
“That’s really hard. So frustrating, the jackpot is still in the machine,” Ben admitted.
Ben then asked Gareth whether he wanted to take the trade option.
Gareth makes a decision for charity
Gareth admitted that he was naturally a risk-taker, but this time there was an important consideration: the money was being played for charity.
“By the way they’ve dropped, I’m a risk-taker in life, but it’s not my money and that’s a lot of money for charity,” he explained.
In the end, £5,900 was secured for the Terrance Higgins Trust.
Although Gareth did not manage to release the jackpot counter, viewers clearly enjoyed watching his enthusiasm throughout the episode.
