Bradley Walsh declared a ‘record-breaking’ mistake had been made as The Chase faced Anne Hegerty

Presenter Bradley Walsh announced that a “record-breaking” blunder had occurred during Thursday’s instalment of The Chase. The host was back fronting a fresh series, welcoming four new contestants hoping to outwit Chaser Anne Hegerty, better known as The Governess.
Will from Norfolk, Stuart from Walsall, Zoe from Hull and Eithne from London all aimed to test their knowledge with the prospect of leaving with fuller pockets.
The squad performed reasonably well on the whole – though not quite to Bradley’s satisfaction. With all four contestants successfully navigating their cashbuilder rounds and head-to-heads against the Chaser, each securing their spot in the final whilst contributing to the prize fund, the TV host couldn’t resist highlighting how much more impressive their performance could have been.
As they prepared for the final Chase, he drew attention to the £20,000 jackpot – meaning each player stood to pocket £5,000.

Pointing to the higher offers, which none of the contestants accepted, Bradley observed: “You could have been playing for £242,000. That is some sort of record, nigh on. It must be. That’s what you could have played for had you all gone for it,” reports the Express.
He then added: “No one’s ever done that. I wonder if anyone would ever do that.”
Sadly, the offers proved irrelevant in the end as Anne dominated the team in the final chase. They managed to set 18 questions for her, which she breezed through effortlessly.

The game concluded with Anne triumphant with 16 seconds still remaining on the clock.
Bradley described them as a “lovely team” and said he thoroughly enjoyed playing with them, as they all confirmed they’d had a “great time” in the ITV studio.
He joked: “Sadly I have to take the £20,000 away and finally tell you that you have been caught and for you the Chase is now over.”
