Working on The Chase certainly doesn’t seem to be a dull job.
The ITV quiz show may be known for its fiendishly difficult questions and nail-biting showdowns, but behind the scenes, things can apparently become far more chaotic — especially when presenter Bradley Walsh and one of the Chasers start struggling to keep straight faces.
One particularly hilarious outtake saw Shaun Wallace completely lose his composure after making a seemingly innocent mistake while attempting to greet the contestant standing opposite him.
What began as a simple slip-up quickly spiralled into a full-blown giggle fit.
Shaun, who is famously known as the Dark Destroyer, was trying to maintain his usual serious Chaser persona when he stumbled over his words.
But instead of simply starting again, the mistake sent both him and Bradley into fits of laughter.
Before long, the pair were behaving less like two seasoned television professionals and more like schoolboys who had discovered something hilarious during class.
The increasingly confused contestants could only watch as the two colleagues struggled to regain control of themselves.
For Shaun in particular, the moment was even more unexpected.
His Dark Destroyer character is famously stern and intimidating, making the sight of him doubled over with laughter all the more amusing.
At one point, the laughter became so uncontrollable that Shaun was forced to call for the cameras to stop.
It was a side of the normally formidable Chaser that viewers rarely get to see.
Sadly, the spectacular meltdown never made it into the broadcast episode.
Nevertheless, the unaired footage proved that even the most serious-looking members of The Chase team are not immune to a good old-fashioned fit of the giggles.
And fans of the show will know that it is far from the first time the quiz programme has produced comedy gold away from its carefully controlled format.
The Chase has become almost as famous for Bradley Walsh’s legendary corpsing and unexpected outtakes as it is for its questions, contestants and tense battles against the Chasers.
This particular Shaun Wallace moment may not have reached the television audience during the original broadcast, but it certainly deserves a place alongside some of the show’s most memorable behind-the-scenes mishaps.
