Bradley Walsh Left Baffled by The Chase Contestant’s Plans for Her Winnings: ‘That’s It?’

Bradley Walsh was left completely unimpressed by a contestant’s modest plans for her potential Chase winnings — before she revealed a much more ambitious bucket list.

The host was putting four aspiring quizzers through their paces on ITV’s The Chase, but before Margaret went head-to-head with Shaun “The Dark Destroyer” Wallace, she and Bradley found themselves locked in a playful disagreement.

Margaret was the third contestant to face the Chaser, following Jordanna and Darren, who had already been eliminated.

As usual, Bradley took a moment to get to know the contestant before the serious quizzing began.

The former scientist immediately caught his attention when she spoke about her previous career, but it was her answer to one simple question that really left him speechless.

Bradley asked Margaret what she would do if she managed to win some money on the show.

Her answer was hardly what he was expecting.

“Well, one of my favourite rhododendrons has died so I would probably replace it,” Margaret explained.

Bradley paused in disbelief as laughter spread through the studio.

“What, that’s it?” he finally asked.

Margaret explained that she was simply keeping her expectations realistic and would decide how extravagant to be depending on how much money she managed to win.

But she then revealed that her ambitions stretched considerably further than replacing a dead plant.

“I’d go on the Orient Express if I could, go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, you know…” she said.

That immediately changed Bradley’s reaction.

“Now you’re talking,” he replied.

“Margaret, set — the world’s your lobster, see past your rhododendron bush!”

The contestant laughed off Bradley’s playful scolding before turning her attention back to the challenge ahead.

Unfortunately, Margaret’s quiz knowledge could not match her travel ambitions.

She followed Jordanna and Darren out of the competition and left without any winnings.

However, her appearance still provided Bradley with another memorable moment when she was asked about an explorer who had travelled around the world.

Margaret confidently suggested that the explorer had made the journey in a Sherman tank, prompting another reaction from the amused host.

As Bradley said goodbye to her, he praised the bizarre answer.

“That’s one of the greatest answers we’ve ever had on this show,” he declared.

Ryan Goes All In for £50,000

With Margaret eliminated, the pressure fell on the final contestant, Ryan.

He decided to take a major gamble, choosing the £50,000 higher offer in an attempt to dramatically increase the team’s potential winnings.

However, Shaun was in formidable form and managed to catch Ryan as well.

Ryan later returned for the Final Chase, where the team had the opportunity to fight for a consolation prize of £1,000 for each player.

The contestant managed to put together a respectable 12-step target, earning praise from both Bradley and Shaun.

But once again, The Dark Destroyer proved too strong.

Shaun eventually caught Ryan with 58 seconds still remaining, bringing the team’s hopes of a big win to an end.

While Margaret may have entered the studio dreaming primarily of a new rhododendron, her appearance became memorable for a very different reason — and Bradley Walsh certainly was not going to let her settle for such a small ambition.

The Chase continues weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
