Tipping Point host Ben Shephard appeared to lose patience during a particularly cautious episode after contestants repeatedly passed up their chances to play the famous machine.

Friday’s classic episode featured Stu, Nicola, Chris and Rachael, who were all hoping to build a prize pot by answering questions correctly and dropping counters into the machine.
But instead of taking their chances, the contestants repeatedly chose to pass the opportunity to play, leaving Ben visibly unimpressed.
In the opening round, each player had three counters and could choose to put one into the machine after answering a question correctly. However, if they didn’t think the machine was ready to pay out, they could pass the turn to another contestant.
And the cautious strategy quickly became the dominant feature of the game.
After Stu passed yet again, Ben couldn’t resist taking a swipe at the players.
“You are allowed to play as well,” he joked.
The remark prompted nervous laughter from the contestants, with Nicola explaining that they were all waiting for Stu to make the first move.
But their reluctance came at a cost.
By the end of the opening round, Chris had managed just £300, while Nicola and Stu had £200 and £100 respectively. Rachael failed to add anything to her prize fund and was eliminated.
The passing continued into the second round — and Nicola soon discovered why being too cautious could backfire spectacularly.
After Chris had increased his total to £650, Ben asked Nicola whether she wanted to take her turn or allow Stu to play first.
Nicola opted to pass.
Stu then made her decision look particularly painful, sending more than 20 counters over the tipping point and boosting his prize fund to £1,150.
With Stu having cleared much of the machine, Nicola faced an uphill battle and ultimately couldn’t recover. She was eliminated with £400.
The final head-to-head saw Chris narrowly beat Stu, entering the final with £1,350, compared with Stu’s £1,300.
Even then, the cautious tactics continued, with Chris eventually telling Stu: “You love your passing.”
Viewers appeared just as frustrated as Ben, with one sarcastically posting: “Say ‘pass’ one more time…”
Another complained about the constant passing, while a third shared a “shameful” reaction alongside: “Still passing, Stu?”
Chris eventually finished the game with £2,300.
But there was an especially painful twist when it was revealed that had he accepted the trade in the final, he could have walked away with the £10,000 jackpot.
What began as a strategy designed to avoid risk ultimately left viewers wondering whether the contestants had been far too cautious for their own good.
