WILLIAM AND KATE KEPT ONE PART OF THEIR YORKSHIRE VISIT SECRET — AND AFTER KEVIN SINFIELD HAD ALREADY PUSHED HIMSELF THROUGH ANOTHER GRUELLING DAY, HE ARRIVED AT THE STADIUM TO FIND TWO UNEXPECTED FACES WAITING FOR HIM.

Prince William and Princess Kate Make Moving Leeds Visit Before Pulling Off a Surprise for Kevin Sinfield

William and Kate travelled up north amid a busy week

Prince William and Princess Kate made an emotional trip to Yorkshire on Tuesday, combining a visit to Leeds Rhinos with a surprise reunion with rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield during his latest fundraising challenge.

The Prince and Princess of Wales began their visit at Headingley Rugby Stadium, where they learned more about the extraordinary legacy of the late Rob Burrow and the work being carried out to raise awareness of motor neurone disease (MND).

Later in the day, however, the royal couple had another moment planned. They travelled to DIY Kitchens Stadium in Wakefield to surprise Kevin as he continued his gruelling week-long ultramarathon challenge.

At Headingley, William and Kate heard about the history of Leeds Rhinos and the lasting impact Rob continues to have on the club and its wider community.

The former rugby league star was diagnosed with MND in 2019, two years after retiring from the sport. He subsequently became a prominent campaigner for greater awareness of the disease before his death in June 2024 at the age of 41.

Kate is patron of the Rugby Football League, while William has developed a close connection with Rob’s family and Kevin through their campaigning and fundraising efforts.

The couple’s visit offered another opportunity to recognise the work that has continued in Rob’s name.

William and Kate later headed to Wakefield, where they met families affected by MND at DIY Kitchens Stadium.

Their appearance was also kept as a surprise for Kevin, who was completing the third day of his latest endurance challenge.

The former Leeds Rhinos star is attempting to run at least 45km every day for seven consecutive days as part of his 7 in 7: The Grand Finale challenge.

His route is taking him to all 12 English Betfred Super League grounds before he completes the challenge at Old Trafford ahead of the Super League Grand Final.

The royal couple welcomed Kevin onto the pitch and heard more about the latest challenge and the cause driving him to continue pushing himself through extraordinary distances.

Just one day earlier, Kevin had been greeted by Princess Anne at the University of York Athletics Track. The Princess Royal has served as patron of the MND Association since 2008.

William’s long-standing connection with Rob and Kevin

Tuesday’s reunion was the latest chapter in Prince William’s relationship with the two former rugby league teammates.

In 2024, William met Rob and Kevin at Headingley Stadium and presented them with their CBEs.

The following year, the Prince opened the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in November 2025.

During that visit, William met Rob’s widow Lindsey and their children, as well as Kevin, and heard about the support the specialist facility would provide to families affected by MND.

William warmly greeted Lindsey and spoke about the legacy her husband had left behind.

“I think Rob’s legacy will live on,” he said at the time, telling Rob’s children they should be proud of their father and describing him as an “incredibly brave and very special man”.

Kevin subsequently described William as “a man of his word”.

Since beginning his endurance challenges in 2020, Kevin has covered more than 1,000 miles and raised more than £10 million for MND charities.

His fundraising has remained closely associated with his friendship with Rob, whose diagnosis inspired an extraordinary campaign to improve awareness and support for people living with the disease.

The latest seven-day challenge continues that mission, combining a demanding physical test with visits to rugby league grounds across England.

A busy period for William and Kate

The Yorkshire trip came during another packed period of royal engagements for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Their recent schedule has included the Digger premiere with Tom Cruise and Kate’s visit to Southend-on-Sea, as well as engagements at Windsor Castle.

According to the Court Circular, Kate received Royal Foundation chief executive Sarah Henwood at Windsor on Monday, while William chaired a meeting of The Prince’s Council, the board of the Duchy of Cornwall.

But Tuesday’s trip placed the focus firmly back on a cause with which William, Kate and the wider Royal Family have developed a close connection.

Their surprise appearance for Kevin also brought together the continuing fundraising effort with the legacy of the friend who inspired it — Rob Burrow.
