Bradley Walsh was left open-mouthed when a contestant used a method he said he had never witnessed in 11 years of hosting The Chase — a children’s rhyme to decide how much money to play for.

Contestant Katrina faced Mark “The Beast” Labbett after earning just £1,000 in her Cash Builder. Mark then offered her minus £4,000 at the low end and a tempting £55,000 at the top.

Katrina immediately dismissed the negative offer, leaving her to choose between sticking with £1,000 or taking a huge gamble on £55,000.

Rather than weighing up the odds in the usual way, Katrina suddenly turned to the children’s counting rhyme “Ip Dip Do” to make her choice.

Bradley could barely believe what he was watching.

“That’s never happened in 11 years!” he laughed. “Someone’s ip dipped it!”

Mark appeared equally lost for words, replying: “There’s nothing you can say about that.”

Bradley, however, loved the unusual tactic and told Katrina: “So clever! I love it. You’re great fun.”

The rhyme eventually landed Katrina on the safer £1,000 option, meaning she would face The Beast for the amount she had originally earned.

Mark eventually caught her during the head-to-head, ending her run before she could return to the team for the Final Chase.

There was also one small detail about Katrina’s version of the rhyme that caught viewers’ attention.

Instead of finishing with “I choose you,” she ended with the words “out goes you” — an unintentionally fitting choice considering how her encounter with The Beast ultimately ended.
