Shaun Wallace Was Handed a Question So Easy the Contestant Barely Hesitated — But His Unexpected Answer Left Bradley Walsh Collapsing With Laughter and Viewers Wondering Whether He Had Done It Deliberately

The Chase’s Shaun Wallace Stuns Bradley Walsh With Simple Maths Blunder as Viewers Question Whether It Was Deliberate

Shaun Wallace has faced some of the toughest questions on The Chase, but one remarkably simple maths problem left Bradley Walsh laughing and viewers wondering how The Dark Destroyer could possibly have got it wrong.

The longtime Chaser was attempting to catch a contestant during her individual head-to-head when Bradley presented them with a straightforward multiple-choice question.

“If a car is travelling at 60 miles per hour, what distance is covered in a minute?”

The contestant appeared confident, describing the problem as relatively easy. She selected one mile — and Bradley confirmed that she was correct.

Then Shaun’s answer was revealed.

Bradley Collapses With Laughter

The unexpected mistake immediately caught both Bradley and the contestant off guard. Bradley collapsed into laughter while the contestant jokingly questioned whether Shaun was serious.

Even Shaun knew just how badly the answer had gone, admitting that his performance on the question had been “shocking.”

For viewers accustomed to watching the barrister confidently handle difficult general-knowledge questions, the error was particularly surprising.

At 60 miles per hour, a car travels one mile every minute — making Shaun’s selection difficult for some fans to understand.

Fans Develop a Theory About Shaun’s Mistake

Reaction to the clip quickly turned from amusement to speculation.

Some viewers questioned whether Shaun occasionally gives contestants an easier opportunity by deliberately missing a question. One fan suggested he might sometimes “throw” a question when he likes a contestant before becoming much more competitive during the Final Chase.

Others agreed that the mistake seemed strange given Shaun’s knowledge, while another theory suggested that multiple-choice questions sometimes cause him to overthink answers he would otherwise know immediately.

There is no evidence that Shaun deliberately answered incorrectly, however, and the speculation came from viewers reacting to the clip.

It Wasn’t His Only Surprisingly Simple Error

Shaun had chosen two miles.

The moment attracted even more attention because Shaun has previously stumbled over another basic question on the programme.

During a Final Chase, Bradley asked how many centimetres there are in a metre.

Shaun answered 10.

The correct answer was 100.

That mistake similarly surprised viewers, with some again questioning how an experienced quizzer could miss something so straightforward.

But it was the 60mph question — followed by Bradley’s uncontrollable laughter and Shaun’s own reaction — that produced one of those classic The Chase moments where the Chaser’s answer became considerably more entertaining than the question itself.
