PRINCESS KATE HAS WORN COUNTLESS DESIGNER PIECES OVER THE YEARS — BUT ONE BRITISH DESIGNER HAS NOW REVEALED WHAT IT MEANS TO SEE THE FUTURE QUEEN STILL RETURNING TO SOMETHING SHE FIRST DISCOVERED MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO.

Few wardrobes command attention quite like Princess Catherine’s. One appearance can send a little-known label soaring, revive a piece that disappeared from view a decade ago or put British craftsmanship in front of millions around the world. But behind the headlines surrounding the so-called “Kate effect” lies something Catherine, 44, has quietly been doing for more than 20 years: returning to the same British brands – and, remarkably, the very same pieces, time and time again.

Now one of her longest-standing go-to designers has revealed what that loyalty means behind the scenes. Penelope Chilvers, whose footwear Catherine has worn since her university days, has praised the Princess and wider Royal Family for using their enormous sartorial influence to champion homegrown fashion.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express, Penelope Chilvers said: “I feel very proud that members of the Royal Family continue to wear our designs, but I’m also delighted that they support British industry.

Before adding, “I think that’s something really special and it’s something they do incredibly well. They really do fly the flag for British brands.”

And Catherine’s relationship with Penelope Chilvers is certainly no fleeting royal fashion romance. Long before Palace engagements, tiaras and state occasions entered her diary, the future Queen had discovered a pair of the designer’s now-famous Long Tassel Boots.

They would go on to become one of the most enduring – and perhaps unexpected staples in her wardrobe.

While royal fashion can sometimes involve gowns worth thousands and jewels quite literally fit for a Queen, Catherine has repeatedly proved she is just as happy pulling an old favourite out of the wardrobe. And it was one particularly memorable reappearance that left Penelope Chilvers bursting with pride.
