Beat The Chasers fans slam ‘rude’ Paul Sinha for telling musical theatre actress she ‘should have got a degree’ instead
BEAT The Chasers star Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha came under fire last night after telling an actress she should have got a degree.
Emma Williams gave as good as she got after the barb, with the TV star later admitting: “I sounded like a d***.”
Paul, 50, said he was trying to make a joke about his dad. Emma was very gracious and said the remark had made her laugh.
He tweeted: “That was meant to be a joke about my dad. I sounded like a d**k.”
To which Emily responded: “Well, it made me laugh. An honour to play against you guys x”
At the end of a round, Emily answered her last three questions wrong and subsequently ran out of time, while the Chasers had six seconds remaining on their clock.
It was this that prompted Paul to say: “My dad gave me a very sound piece of advice, or an order, which was ‘get a degree first, then think of a career in entertainment.”
Emily wasn’t fazed and replied: “That’s difficult to do when you go into it at 18 as one of the longest West End leading ladies,” before performing a curtsy.
Fans lapped this up as one tweeted: “Good for you for saying this! She was able to handle it and had it though! Must admit I was surprised- I thought “you’re not that guy”! X”
While another added: “Sadly you let yourself down. A smart person knows what to say….. a wise person knows whether to say it or not ;)).”
A third viewer chimed in: “We all sound like a d**k sometimes, the fact that you were upfront about the small mistake means you’re better than most. Everyone knows there was no ill-intent, don’t worry about it.”
While a fourth user laughed: “I’m a pro singer, haven’t had a gig since March, and I laughed….mainly cos what you said is true!! I sure wish I’d studied science instead of music right now!!” Great show tonight! You guys played amazingly well!”
Last month, Paul assured viewers they will see the most dramatic contestant yet.
He told ITV: “One contestant brought a completely different tactical game and ended up being one of the most dramatic contestants we’ve ever had on Beat The Chasers. I will say no more than that. There is real, real drama in this series.”
