Bradley Walsh struggled to keep The Chase moving after a 19-year-old contestant gave an answer that left the ITV host doubled over with laughter.

Victoria appeared alongside Nathan, Rich and Pam as the four contestants attempted to build a prize fund before facing Shaun Wallace, better known as The Dark Destroyer.

The team had made a promising start, but Victoria’s head-to-head produced one moment nobody in the studio seemed prepared for.

Nathan was first to face Bradley’s Cash Builder and delivered an impressive performance, answering eight questions correctly and earning £8,000.

Shaun subsequently offered him £2,000 as the low offer and £30,000 as the high option, but Nathan stayed with his original £8,000 and successfully returned to the team.

Next came Victoria.

Despite facing the pressure of following Nathan’s performance, the student answered five Cash Builder questions correctly and accumulated £5,000.

Shaun then offered her the opportunity to play for £40,000.

Victoria decided against the gamble, choosing instead to protect the £5,000 she had already earned.

For much of the head-to-head, the decision appeared to be working perfectly.

Then Bradley reached one particular question.

One Nostradamus question changes the mood

Bradley asked Victoria which form of verse Renaissance Frenchman Nostradamus used to write his predictions.

The three possible answers were quatrains, sonnets or limericks.

Victoria admitted she wasn’t sure.

When her selection was revealed, she had chosen “limericks.”

Bradley immediately struggled to maintain his composure.

The presenter burst into laughter and eventually bent over as the answer sank in. After recovering enough to continue, he made it clear that limericks wasn’t going to be the correct choice.

The right answer was quatrains.

It could have been a costly mistake for Victoria, particularly with Shaun chasing her, but fortunately it didn’t end her run.

Despite the wrong answer and Bradley’s reaction, Victoria recovered and successfully made it through to the Final Chase alongside Nathan.

Rich was the next contestant to play.

He also answered five questions correctly during his Cash Builder but wasn’t able to escape Shaun during their head-to-head and was eliminated.

Pam then became the final contestant to face The Dark Destroyer and successfully returned to the team.

That left Nathan, Victoria and Pam playing for a combined jackpot of £19,000.

The trio had two minutes to build the strongest possible target and managed 16 correct answers.

It gave them a chance, but Shaun proved too strong.

The Dark Destroyer successfully caught their total with only seconds remaining, meaning the contestants ultimately left without the £19,000 jackpot.

For Victoria, however, one moment from the earlier round had already made the episode memorable.

Her mistake hadn’t prevented her from reaching the final, but the sight of Bradley Walsh bending over with laughter after seeing her unexpected Nostradamus answer provided the moment viewers were unlikely to forget.
