Bradley Walsh is rarely short of a comeback on The Chase, but one contestant managed to catch the host completely off guard after revealing what she does for a living — before delivering a cheeky observation that had the studio laughing.

Donru, 34, a doctor from Liverpool, appeared on the ITV quiz show and explained that she specialized in sexual health while also training part-time to become a GP.

When Bradley asked about her work and some of the unusual situations she encounters at a sexual health clinic, Donru wasted no time teasing him.

“I work in a sexual health clinic, they’re all strange! They’re all strange Bradley!” she said.

Bradley immediately burst into laughter, clapping his hands before leaning against his podium.

But Donru had another line ready.

Explaining how some awkward conversations at the clinic begin, Donru joked: “It usually starts with ‘My mate!’ … er, you mean you?”

That was enough to set Bradley off again.

Spotting the perfect opportunity for a comeback, the host began: “It’s funny you’re here Donru, because my mate…”

He never needed to finish the joke. Donru and Bradley both dissolved into laughter as her teammates joined in from behind.

The comedy continued when Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan arrived for Donru’s head-to-head round.

“I’m really glad you’re here… my mate’s got this really embarrassing problem, you need to help him!” Jenny joked.

The laughter disappears when the game begins

Unfortunately for Donru, the lighthearted start did not translate into success on the quiz board.

She failed to earn any money during her Cash Builder, meaning she entered her head-to-head against Jenny playing only for the opportunity to return to her team and reach the Final Chase.

After all the jokes about her profession, it was ultimately a question about swimming that caused the doctor problems.

Jenny caught Donru before she could make it back to the team, bringing her appearance on the show to an early end.

But while Donru left without reaching the Final Chase, her playful description of life inside a sexual health clinic had already produced one of the episode’s most memorable exchanges — and briefly left even the famously quick-witted Bradley Walsh struggling to keep a straight face.
