Bradley Walsh is used to putting contestants under pressure on The Chase, but one player managed to turn the tables before she had even answered a question.

When contestant Claudine revealed exactly who she worked for, Bradley immediately abandoned his usual position and hid behind his teleprompter — prompting laughter from the rest of the team.

The reason? Claudine worked for the tax department at HMRC.

And Bradley wasn’t going to let her forget it.

One Answer Sends Bradley Into Hiding

Introducing Claudine, Bradley began with his usual conversation about her life away from quizzing.

Claudine initially explained that she was an IT project manager. But when Bradley asked which field she worked in, she revealed the detail that changed the entire conversation.

“I work in the civil service, I work for the tax department, I have been there all my life and I am very proud of it,” she said.

Bradley’s reaction was immediate.

He moved away and hid behind his teleprompter as the contestants laughed at his mock terror.

But Claudine was more than willing to play along.

Still keeping his distance, Bradley asked what Claudine enjoyed doing outside work.

“When I’m not hunting for people I like to travel around a lot Bradley,” she joked.

Claudine’s Cash Builder didn’t go quite as smoothly as her conversation with Bradley, although she still managed to earn £4,000.

Waiting for her at the table was Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan.

And Jenny had clearly been listening to the earlier conversation.

She greeted the HMRC employee with a tax-themed joke of her own, quipping: “If you tax like you quiz, we are all rebate.”

Bradley could only respond: “If only… If only…”

Then Jenny placed a huge £40,000 high offer on the table.

That was all Bradley needed to launch into another elaborate routine.

Bradley Has Some Advice About £40,000

Bradley pointed out that the potential £40,000 prize would be tax-free before joking about what could happen if Claudine invested the money and began earning interest.

He rattled through an increasingly complicated explanation involving tax bands, interest and payments before arriving at his own preferred financial strategy.

He would simply “run.”

Claudine ultimately decided against chasing the £40,000 high offer and chose the lower amount instead, explaining that it was good to have some money in the bank.

Jenny couldn’t resist one final response.

“Spoken like a true representative of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs,” she joked.

Claudine Turns the Tables on The Chase Host

The memorable exchange had little to do with difficult quiz questions or a dramatic Final Chase.

Instead, it showed how quickly Bradley can turn a simple contestant introduction into comedy.

All Claudine had to do was reveal her employer.

Within seconds, the host was hiding behind his equipment, asking suspiciously detailed questions about her holidays and joking about running away with his winnings.
