ZZ Top Abruptly Cancels Concert Hours Before Hollywood Bowl Show Over ‘Personnel Matters’

ZZ Top abruptly canceled a concert the night before they were scheduled to take the stage on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in Los Angeles.

“The ZZ Top tour has unforeseen personnel matters that have forced the band to cancel its appearance at the Los Angeles landmark,” the group said in a Tuesday, Aug. 4, statement posted on their website.

The audience will be refunded for tickets purchased, including transportation and parking passes.

The group also announced the cancellation on Instagram Wednesday.

“Insurmountable obstacles require canceling our Hollywood Bowl performance,” frontman Billy Gibbons said. “Friends, fans and followers of ZZ Top are the best in the business and the band is counting on everyone to bear with us for this brief interruption.”

Cheap Trick was also supposed to perform at the Hollywood Bowl, but the rock band announced a “very special and intimate” sold-out show at the Troubadour on Wednesday instead.

ZZ Top currently features guitarist Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and bassist Elwood Francis. Francis joined the band after Dusty Hill died in July 2021 at 72

ZZ Top’s latest album is 2022’s RAW, a collection of classic songs recorded by the band’s original lineup in 2019 to coincide with their Netflix documentary, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.

“‘The Dust’ may have left the building but he’s still very much with us,” Gibbons and Beard said in a statement when announcing the album, referencing the late Hill.

ZZ Top is scheduled to continue The Big One tour on Friday, Aug. 7, in Fresno, Calif., Saturday, Aug. 8, in Saratoga, Calif., and Sunday, Aug. 9, in Modesto, Calif.
