Tom Cruise Praises Kate Middleton, Says Prince William Made a ‘Smart Choice’: ‘He Did Well’

Following their high-profile red carpet reunion in London, Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise offered glowing praise for Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, humorously commending the heir to the British throne on his marriage. Speaking to Extra at the U.S. premiere of his latest feature Digger at the Directors Village theater in Westwood, Los Angeles, the 64-year-old actor opened up about sitting alongside the royal couple during the film’s world premiere at Leicester Square last week:
“It was just so fun sitting there watching them watch it and for them to be part of it. I have so much respect for them, you know, they’re amazing people and how dedicated they are to their country and also… what they give to the world. They’re just beautiful people and fun, very funny.”

The Princess of Wales made an exceptionally strong impression on Cruise, who commended both her intellect and her commanding red-carpet presence:
“She’s got a great sense, incredible sense of humor. I mean, obviously very intelligent and fun… They’re so charismatic and so elegant; that dress that she was wearing? Stunning, absolutely stunning. William did well. Way to go. Smart choice.”
Cruise also shared the royals’ enthusiastic reaction to the closely guarded, Alejandro G. Iñárritu-directed comedy: “You know, they were shocked and surprised and wrote me later, ‘Can’t stop thinking about the movie.’ It was, it was really beautiful.”

Cruise’s ties to the British royal family trace back over thirty years to when he and former wife Nicole Kidman met the late Princess Diana at the 1992 premiere of Far and Away. Over recent years, Cruise and Prince William have bonded closely over their mutual passion for aviation and philanthropy, with their latest red carpet collaboration in London reaffirming an enduring cross-Atlantic friendship.
