Meghan Markle was accused of copying Lady Victoria Beckham after her latest birthday dance on social media. The Duchess of Sussex uploaded a new video to her Instagram stories on Tuesday, August 4, showing how she spent her birthday morning at her home in Montecito, California.

In the video, Meghan was seen dancing around her kitchen in Montecito, California, next to a kitchen island with huge happy birthday balloons. She was barefoot and dressed casually in white pyjamas consisting of white trousers and an oversized t-shirt featuring the words: “It’s giving Mrs.” Her hair was wrapped up in a bun under a “birthday” tiara.

Prince Harry, who most likely recorded the video, could be heard in the background laughing and saying: “Oh dear.”

But internet sleuths have pointed out how Meghan’s dance is allegedly very similar to that of Lady Beckham from her family holidays in Canada in 2024.

A user created a video showing the two clips side by side, and fans rushed to the comment section to express their views.

The user, @fashionistaera, said on X: “Not only did Meghan happily copy Diana’s jumping-into-the-water pose with jewelry, but now she’s happily copying the Beckhams’ dance.”

Another one commented: “I knew I had seen that dance somewhere.”

A third one opined: “I’m convinced she’s doing it so she’s mocked and then she cries ‘I’m the most trolled person’.”

A fourth one added: “Meghan can only cosplay with a fake tiara, she’s not getting a real one.”

A fifth one blasted: “It’s getting ridiculous!”

Meanwhile, another one said: “There is nothing original about her.”

However, other users defended the duchess, with several pointing out that this is a very common dance called the Electric Slide, a line dance created in the 1970s by choreographer Ric Silver.

One user commented: “The ‘Beckham’s dance’? So they invented the electric slide? Does Richard Silver know??”

A second one said: “The electric slide has been around since 1976, so I’m pretty sure it’s free for anyone to use.”

A third one added: “Exactly!! I was like, ‘That’s the damn electric slide. We dance this all the time!” Got the UK calling it the Beckham dance, LOL.”
