Joe Marler Lifts the Lid on How Prince Harry Behaved Before Shock Interview
The former rugby star says the Duke of Sussex quickly made the unexpected meeting feel completely ordinary
Joe Marler has revealed what happened when Prince Harry walked into the room for their surprise podcast interview during the Duke’s latest visit to the UK.
Harry appeared on Joe Marler Will See You Now during his trip to Britain at the beginning of July, with the unexpected conversation covering topics including fatherhood and mental health.
But according to Marler, the atmosphere was far more relaxed than he and his team had anticipated.

Harry’s casual entrance surprised the podcast team
Speaking to the Mirror, Marler recalled that everyone in the room had been waiting for Harry and expecting his arrival to feel like a major event.
Instead, the Duke entered casually and immediately greeted everyone.
“We were in the room waiting for him to arrive, thinking it’s going to be this big event, and he just comes straight in, said, ‘Hi guys, how you doing?’” Marler recalled.
Harry then hugged Marler before greeting Jake in the same way.
The former rugby player said that within around 90 seconds, the situation felt completely normal.
“It was like talking to a normal person,” he said, explaining that he decided they should simply treat Harry accordingly — and that was exactly what they did.
Marler was already ‘Team Harry’

Marler also spoke enthusiastically about his experience recording the episode and made it clear that he had a positive impression of the Duke.
“I knew I liked him. I was Team Harry, if there were teams or whatever,” he said.
The relaxed tone continued when Harry was introduced using his full name, Henry Charles Albert David.
When asked whether there was a shorter version they could use, Harry simply replied: “Harry”.
The Duke was also asked about his occupation. Rather than beginning with his royal title, he described himself as a “Full-time dad, British Army veteran…”
The response offered a glimpse of the more informal approach Harry took during the conversation.
The podcast covered fatherhood and mental health

During the episode, Harry discussed a range of personal subjects, including his experiences as a father and mental health.
His appearance came during a wider UK visit with Meghan Markle, with their two children joining him later.
The Sussex family subsequently visited Highgrove House on July 10, where they met King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The meeting was particularly significant as it marked the monarch’s first meeting with his two youngest grandchildren since 2022.
For Marler, however, the memorable part of Harry’s podcast appearance was how quickly the royal status seemed to fade into the background.
What began with the anticipation of a major celebrity arrival became, according to the former rugby star, a relaxed conversation with someone who immediately made himself at home in the room.
