WhileĀ Prince HarryĀ andĀ Meghan MarkleĀ have headed back to the United States after visiting the United Kingdom with their two children,Ā Prince ArchieĀ andĀ Princess Lilibet, Harry didĀ carry out one poignant visit.

The SunĀ reported that the Duke of Sussex was seen leaving Althorp House, his late motherĀ Princess Diana’sĀ ancestral home and gravesite. Ahead of his visit, it was reported thatĀ Harry wanted to visit the site with his children, having previously done so with Meghan.

While it’s unclear whether Harry made the special pilgrimage with his children,Ā HELLO!’sĀ royal editor, Emily Nash, noted: “They will have made time to pay a visit to her graveside, we know Harry took Meghan there early on in their relationship, so it would be important for him to do the same with his children.”

Harry’s visit to his mother’s gravesite came shortly after what would have been her 65th birthday on 1 July. Previous reports indicated this is when Harry wanted to carry out the visit.

In his memoir,Ā Spare, Harry recounted what happened when he headed to hisĀ mother’s resting place with his wife, writing: “I was finally bringing the girl of my dreams home so she would meet my mother.”

During their joint trip, which saw Harry’s uncle,Ā Earl Charles Spencer, give their boat a “little shove” after it got stuck in the mud, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prayed at the gravesite, with Meghan saying she sought “guidance” from Diana.

Diana rests on an island in an artificial lake

Following her death in 1997, Diana was buried on a private, artificial island in the middle of the lake. The island is closed to members of the public to protect her body.

In 2017, Charles revealed: “We have had four attempted break-ins towards her body in the last 20 years. I am very glad that we have seen all of them off. There are some odd people out there. Keeping her right here [at Althorp] is the safest place.”

Harry’s family reunion

During his visit to the UK, Harry, Meghan and their childrenĀ did enjoy a family reunion, as they headed to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire to meet withĀ King CharlesĀ andĀ Queen Camilla.

It marked the first time that Archie and Lilibet had seen their grandfather since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which were marked in 2022.
