The courtroom also heard unusual details surrounding the defendant, including an attempt to bring his dog into the proceedings. The former Prince Andrew provided a witness statement in the trial against his alleged stalker this week.

Andrew, 66, is accusing a 39-year-old reportedly homeless man, Alex Jenkinson, of accosting him outside his Sandringham residence on May 6, while he was walking his dogs.

After a delay last month due to concerns about Jenkinson’s mental health, the trial is expected to begin on Dec. 21. But this week, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Andrew’s testimony about the events that led to the charges.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram read parts of the statement, in which the former Duke of York described seeing an unknown car near his residence on the day in question, according to the BBC. He wrote that he assumed it was paparazzi and drove past the vehicle with his security detail.

According to Andrew’s description, he then noticed an “out-of-place” man wearing a “balaclava face covering,” per the outlet. The man “turned and faced me,” Andrew recounted. “Then he realized who I was and began to sprint after my vehicle.”

Andrew also noted in his statement that he “saw a loose dog” running towards Jenkinson during the encounter, according to the BBC.

Jenkinson was barred from this week’s legal proceedings due to attempting to bring his dog into the courthouse, the outlet reported. His lawyer argued that the dog is a support animal due to her client being homeless and having ADHD; however, she was unable to provide documentation to prove his need for a service or his medical condition.

Andrew wrote in his statement that his encounter with Jenkinson caused him to “fear unlawful violence” from the other man. Suffolk Police is applying for a civil Stalking Protection Order against Jenkinson.

Jenkinson has denied the public order offence against Andrew. He has also recently pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence stemming from an encounter with a different man, Stephen Terry, in the same area on the day before his encounter with Andrew.

The defendant is currently barred from trying to contact Andrew and from going near royal residences of Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, Windsor and Highgrove.

The former prince was arrested on Feb. 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office, linked to allegations that he improperly shared information with Epstein while working as an envoy for the British government.

Andrew first lost his military titles and patronages in 2022, after he attempted to have a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre dismissed. The following month, he settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum. Giuffre died by suicide on April 24, 2025.

In October 2025, King Charles stripped his younger brother of his titles and royal residence due to the fallout over his connections with Epstein, prompting the move to Sandringham.

Andrew has denied all wrongdoing regarding his ties to Epstein.
