Meghan Markle’s just proved she’ll do anything to win – and Prince Harry will be fuming
Meghan is slipping back into the spotlight again, but the move feels like a wager that could leave Harry seething in the shadows, argues Chris Riches.

US TV had a stomach-churning, post-Megxit period of relentless obsession with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with every entitled gripe and whine given wall-to-wall coverage. Thank heavens that ‘Sussex fatigue’ wound down, but new reports suggest ‘Brand Sussex 2.0’ could be back with a vengeance and more sickly sweet than ever.
In recent months, Meghan has been more elusive than the Scarlet Pimpernel – okay, maybe not a great comparison, as he actually saved the royals. Anyway, she has been taking a back seat during the build-up and the eventual damp squib that was Harry and Meghan’s UK return last month for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

It was suggested she felt the few days back in Blighty, and the meet-up with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove, should be left to Harry to front and arrange.
Even the Invictus Games publicity events, which were a home run PR-wise for the Sussexes, ended up featuring just Harry on his lonesome, with no Meghan in sight.
The couple had taken their legal dispute over being denied Met Police SO14 Royalty Protection officers, normally granted only to working royals, to the eleventh hour, as they repeatedly claim they are not safe in the UK.
Now that the trip is behind them and they are back in California, it is claimed that Meghan is reinvigorated and ready to kick-start her own career again, with maybe Harry taking a back seat for a change.
To make some much-needed money, the couple could do another tell-all documentary or book, but it has been suggested that the US audience has tired of their constant moaning, and their five-year, $100-million Netflix deal has expired.
Also, if Harry’s long-term dream of being a half-in, half-out royal is to be realised, he knows King Charles has to trust him to keep his mouth shut – especially about what goes on at the palace behind closed doors.
But with a stroke of luck, on their return to the ‘States her now-defunct Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, was shortlisted for a Daytime Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Lifestyle Program’.
So now it’s thought Meghan wants to ramp up her own ‘As Ever’ website brand – and that means selling a lot more expensive jams and smelly candles and pushing Harry more into the shadows, whether he likes it or not.

An insider said: “Meghan feels she’s done her bit to help him. She went to England, kept out of sight, and abided by all the rules because she knew how important the trip was.
“But now that they’re back home, she’s saying it’s time to forget about the royals and put their energy back into the life they’re building in America, which really means focusing on her and her brand.”
The nomination seems bizarre, as the show received dismal reviews and its ratings plunged from 5.3 million in the first season to 2 million in the second.
Meanwhile, new YouGov America polls have shown a rapid decline in Meghan’s popularity since last year, from 37% of voters liking Meghan to 29% this year.
The Emmy Awards night in September will give the Sussexes a huge opportunity to meet TV and commercial power players, so kickstart Brand Sussex 2.0.
The question is: Are we ready for it ….. and can we stomach it?
