Prosecutors argued the footage told a much darker story, while the judge described the alleged incident as “bizarre” and “troubling” before denying bail. The courtroom grew tense as both sides clashed over what the video really showed. But it was the judge’s response to the defense’s explanation that has left people across the country stunned.

A lawyer for the New Jersey woman accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl claimed the sick caught-on-video assault was “blown out of proportion” as she tried to blame the tot for the alleged abuse, according to a report.

Victoria Cranmer sobbed during a hearing where a judge ruled she would be held without bail for the “bizarre” and “troubling” May 6 incident that took place when Cranmer was watching the child inside the girl’s home while her mom was out, according to a report by the Asbury Park Press.

At the hearing, Cranmer’s own lawyer, Marissa Koerner, said the 14-second Snapchat video showed an “innocent moment,” and was not a crime.

“Anyone who has spent time caring for young children understands that children often have little appreciation for personal space or privacy,” Koerner said.

“Young children routinely follow parents or caregivers into bathrooms, touch things, ask questions, are curious and fail to recognize ordinary social boundaries.”

The clip allegedly depicted Cranmer sitting on the toilet and laughing as the little girl touched Cranmer, prosecutor Lynn Juan told the judge.

But Koerner said: “Children often engage in funny, spontaneous or strange behavior that adults record because the moment is memorable or humorous.”

“The video has been blown out of proportion.”

Ocean County Judge Kenneth Palmer appeared unpersuaded by the defense attorney’s arguments, saying: “The word to describe it is bizarre.”

“I find it to be troubling there wasn’t any attempt to stop the child from touching her,” Palmer said.

The 25-year-old Cranmer was allegedly caught after a pal whose house she had been staying at for three months took back the phone she bought for Cranmer only to find the video on Cranmer’s Snapchat account.

The friend was able to identify Cranmer in the video because of her distinctive tattoo, a crudely drawn set of breasts, and other ink on her legs, the court papers say.
