Reports suggest the Duke faces a series of tough hurdles if he wants to regain the trust he lost after years of public fallout and explosive revelations. But it isn’t just the possibility of a royal comeback that’s grabbing attention — the four conditions Harry is now being urged to meet are leaving royal watchers questioning whether a return is even possible.

If Prince Harry thinks he can simply turn the clock back to 2020 and slip back into the Royal fold, he has another thing coming. Sources claim Harry, 41, has been encouraged regarding his future relationship with the Royal Family following his trip to the UK in July with his wife Meghan Markle, and children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

For Harry the trip was vital as he seeks to nail down the Royal Family into setting in stone a potential new draft of the ‘half-in-half-out/commercially-working royal’ deal he was refused in 2020 by the late Queen Elizabeth II. That deal snub sparked Megxit and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to seek revenge in a shameless take-down of their own relatives in TV interviews and books – all for money.

Last month – after much negotiation on both sides – King Charles and Queen Camilla met Harry and his family privately at Highgrove, after assurances that the Sussexes would not run off to cash-in on the meeting afterwards.

A new staffing change on the horizon has also encouraged Harry into thinking he will finally get what he wants: to work as a royal in the UK but make money based on his status when abroad.

It has just been revealed that King Charles and Queen Camilla’s longtime principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, will finally be leaving his position in May 2027.

In his memoir Spare, Sir Clive was reportedly depicted as ‘The Wasp’ – a “charming,” “weedy,” and “arrogant” courtier capable of putting you on his hit list if you ever crossed him.

But if Harry thinks Sir Clive’s departure next year makes a full-blown Royal Family reunion with his father King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Catherine a dead cert, he may be deluded.

Royal insider Kinsey Schofield put it bluntly: “Harry may welcome Sir Clive’s retirement personally, especially after portraying him so negatively in ‘Spare,’ but if Harry believes one retirement suddenly clears the path back into the Royal Family, I think he’ll be disappointed.”

Instead Schofield cited four key steps Harry must first take to win back the Royal Family’s trust and respect.

She said: “It begins with rebuilding credibility. That’s something only Harry can do – and it takes time, consistency, and discretion.”

Will he and Meghan be consistent? Meghan certainly has built up a terrible reputation as being capricious – after all they have churned through dozens of staff in the last few years.

Most of all, are they even capable of being discreet? They have monetised private conversations by teasing about them on TV or plainly publishing them in full in Harry’s memoir Spare.

How can the Royal Family trust a couple when any conversation could appear in print or social media later, for a profit, because of the Sussexes’ desperate need and desire to make dosh?

These four steps may sound a simple move – but could be an impossible path to walk.
