Prince Harry reportedly has high hopes for a major royal reunion with his father at next year’s Invictus Games, and now a source has opened up on the King’s possible reaction to it. The Duke of Sussex is said to want to invite King Charles to the sporting event next year, which will take place in Birmingham. According to the latest reports, Harry would love for his father to attend “either the opening or closing ceremony” of the Invictus Games, which would give them a chance at a public reunion for the first time in four years.

The duke and his father last spent time together in public for the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022 and her Platinum Jubilee celebration the summer of that year. Harry did attend Charles’s Coronation in May 2023; however, he did not attend any public events.

Now, a source has opened up about the King’s possible reaction to a public reunion with his estranged son.

They told the Mirror that the King “would welcome the opportunity to see his grandchildren again”.

Harry returned to the UK for five days in July to attend various events linked to his patronages, including the one-year-to-go countdown for the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

He also held a private meeting with his father and his wife, Queen Camilla, as well as his own family, Meghan Markle and Prince Archie, with Princess Lilibet.

Another source told the outlet: “Next year is a big deal for Harry. He is determined that the Birmingham Games will be the best ever, and it would mean the world to him to have his father there.”

Meanwhile, another source suggested that Harry’s wish serves a double purpose.

They said: “Harry’s intention is two-fold. He would love the King’s support at the Games, while having his father by his side would also add considerable weight to his argument for security for his family to accompany him on the trip.”

The duke has faced a prolonged legal battle with the Home Office over the security arrangements for him and his family when in the UK after his level of protection changed when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
