King Charles and Queen Camilla have been married for over 20 years, and the monarch showed that he was still able to tease his beloved after all of these years

King Charles and Queen Camilla are known for their rock-solid marriage, and during a recent engagement in the Isle of Man, the monarch made a joke about his beloved.

While visiting the island, Charles met James Fenton, a 104-year-old Burma Star veteran. The pair had previously crossed paths last year when they met at the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.

Following their chat, James asked the monarch to pass a message on to his wife, Camilla, to which Charles responded by teasing: “I will. Don’t tell me you’re another one who danced with her as well.”

Camilla, who is known to be a fan of dancing, has been seen with numerous veterans over the years at commemorative events. Back in 2015, the then Duchess of Cornwall danced with World War II veteran Jim Booth as they marked the 70th anniversary of VJ Day.

The royal loves dance so much that she even dances ballet in order to keep fit. TV presenter and former Strictly star Angela Rippon revealed last year: “I persuaded her to become a Silver Swan and she takes the classes very seriously because we were just talking about the way in which dancing really is a brilliant way of getting fit and keeping fit.”

Charles undertook his first visit to the Isle of Man as monarch this week, and he hoped that he wasn’t “massacring” the local Manx language as he tried his hand at it.

Recalling royal connections to the island, he revealed: “The first Royal visit was by my great-great-great-grandfather, Prince Albert, who rowed ashore from the steam-driven Royal Yacht, Victoria and Albert in September 1847, disembarked at Ramsey, and became the first Royal visitor to the Island.”

Charles and Camilla’s jokes

Charles is known to make the occasional joke at his wife’s expense, even teasing that she was “bossy” during a royal tour. Back in 2022, the royal couple headed to Kigali, Rwanda, and Camilla was seen asking her husband to “hurry up” as they prepared to pose for official photos.

“She’s very bossy,” Charles laughed as he started taking his place.

Meanwhile, last year, the pair’s anniversary fell as they were enjoying a state visit to Italy. The pair were invited to a State Banquet for the occasion, and in his speech, Charles remarked: “Today marks, as you say, the Queen’s and my 20th wedding anniversary.

“On that score, I must say it really is very good of you, Mr President, to lay on this small, romantic, candle-lit dinner for two.”
