Frech also spoke to EW about developing the “blade stand” move with pro partner Daniella Karagach.

Ezra Frech isn’t shying away from the challenges he’s faced on Dancing With the Stars.
The Paralympian crossed a huge milestone on Tuesday night when he and pro partner Daniella Karagach scored the first 10 of season 35 with a heartbreaking contemporary routine set to “Bloodline” by Mon Rovîa. The performance was lauded by the judges and even moved Karagach to tears.
In the aftermath of their big victory, Frech is reminding fans that there are highs and lows to every aspect of life. On Wednesday, the athlete shared a clip from rehearsals in which he attempts a spin — only to painfully crumble to the ground.

In the video (below), Frech is mid-turn when he loses his balance and falls to the ground. The video then shakes as the person behind the camera — presumably Karagach — gasps and mutters, “Oh my god.” Frech’s upload then offers a slow-motion replay of the fall, emphasizing that he’s more than ready to laugh off the mistake.
“Life with one leg lol,” Frech playfully captioned the clip.
Once a work in progress, the routine ultimately earned the duo the second-highest score of the night. Three judges — Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli — awarded them nines, while guest judge and former DWTS pro Kym Johnson gave them the first 10 of the season, for a total of 37 out of 40. They tied for second with Jenna Dewan and her temporary partner Alan Bersten, coming right behind Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov, who earned a 38/40.
Afterwards, Frech gushed to Entertainment Weekly about how meaningful it was to perform the emotional contemporary routine, which was dedicated to his mother, Bahar Soomekh. He also emphasized how exciting it was to debut a special move that saw Karagach step up onto his prosthetic leg.
“The blade stand! That’s what we’re calling it: the blade stand,” Frech told EW, pointing to Karagach’s head as he shared that the idea came from “this genius’s brain.”

Karagach said the move came up randomly during rehearsals. “I literally just asked him to climb it one day. Truly, I was like, ‘Can I climb your blade?,’” she recalled.
“I was like, ‘Yes, ma’am. Do your thing.’ And then the blade stand was born,” Frech said. “It’s really cool to get to incorporate my prosthetic — this piece of technology that I use to walk around — as a part of the art, as a part of the dance, as a part of the lift.”
Frech, a track and field athlete who was born without most of his left leg and several fingers on his left hand, said that he initially worried that his prosthetic would “hinder” him from doing certain lifts during his DWTS experience.
“But we did a lift because of it and that’s really exciting,” he continued. “And then also the fact that I don’t know if it’s ever been done before. I don’t know if anyone could have replicated it, so that’s exciting too.”
New episodes of Dancing With the Stars season 35 air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
