Sarah Hardwig is proving that nothing—not even a disability—can stand in the way of chasing her dreams.
The 23-year-old took the stage during the final round of auditions on America’s Got Talent Season 21, delivering an emotional performance that left a lasting impression on both the judges and the audience.
Now in its 21st season, the hit competition series continues its search for the next breakout star, with Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell returning as judges, while Terry Crews once again serves as host. Contestants from all walks of life are competing for the coveted $1 million grand prize, and Sarah quickly emerged as one of the night’s most inspiring performers.
Who is Sarah Hardwig?
Born blind after being diagnosed with a rare genetic eye condition at just five months old, Sarah Hardwig has never let her disability define her.
Speaking to the America’s Got Talent judges, she shared, “Music has always played an important role in my life, and I want to prove to the world that regardless of whether you have a disability or not, you can do absolutely anything that you set your mind to.”
According to her official website, Sarah now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. She released her debut single, “Who I Am,” in 2022, and in October 2024 achieved one of her biggest dreams by performing on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage.
For her AGT audition, Sarah delivered a heartfelt rendition of Lainey Wilson’s 2022 hit “Heart Like a Truck,” the lead single from Bell Bottom Country. As she performed, her parents watched from backstage, visibly emotional and wiping away tears.
Sarah’s Performance Lands With The AGT Judges
Overcome with emotion as the audience erupted into applause, Sarah fought back tears while taking in the overwhelming response to her audition.
Howie Mandel praised the performance as “beautiful and heartwarming,” telling her, “You are the epitome of resilience to show up here and sing your heart out.”
Mel B complimented Sarah’s vocals but encouraged her to “go even bigger” if she advanced in the competition. Sofia Vergara, however, disagreed, saying she “wouldn’t change a thing.”
Simon Cowell also praised the audition, calling it “really, really good,” before adding:
“I hope this boosts your confidence because you really, really have a natural gift.”
