WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? VIEWERS LEFT STUNNED đŸ˜±đŸ’° A contestant shocked the audience after walking away from what many viewers at home called the “easiest answer” — but was it really as obvious as it seemed? đŸ€” The tense moment had fans second-guessing themselves as the contestant faced a deceptively simple question with everything on the line.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? Viewers Stunned as Contestant Walks Away From ‘Easiest’ £16,000 Question

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? viewers were left baffled after a contestant decided to walk away from a ÂŁ16,000 question that some fans insisted had an obvious answer.

Diana England, a retired production manager from Penrith, had successfully worked her way through the earlier questions before finding herself stuck on a question about national flags.

Her ÂŁ16,000 question asked:

“The national flag of Ireland is a near mirror image of that of which African country?”

The four possible answers were Cîte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Egypt and Kenya.

Jeremy Clarkson Couldn’t Help Either

Diana initially turned to host Jeremy Clarkson for assistance using her “Ask the Host” lifeline.

But Clarkson admitted that he was struggling too.

“When that cropped up, I thought ‘this will be easy’ and it isn’t,” he said.

“I can’t get a single one of those flags in my head.”

After considering the options, Clarkson was unable to identify the correct answer.

Diana then used her “Phone A Friend” lifeline and called her friend Julian.

Although Julian admitted he did not know the answer, he did provide a potentially crucial clue.

He suggested that Cîte d’Ivoire “has the same flag as Ireland” and ruled out Kenya and Egypt.

“I don’t think it’s Kenya, I don’t think it’s Egypt. Sorry, that’s the best I can do,” he told Diana.

Clarkson joked that Julian had nevertheless been “of massive assistance” despite not knowing the answer.

Diana Decides Not to Risk ÂŁ15,000

Despite having been given Cîte d’Ivoire as the strongest suggestion, Diana ultimately decided not to gamble.

Rather than committing to an answer, she chose to walk away with the money.

But she was left gutted when the correct answer was revealed.

Cîte d’Ivoire was indeed the correct answer.

The decision immediately sparked a reaction among viewers, with many questioning why Diana had not taken the chance.

One viewer wrote on X: “It’s the easiest answer and she walked.”

Another commented: “Wow
a kid could have answered that.”

A third wrote: “She literally just got told the answer and she takes the money??”

Another viewer questioned: “How can she not know what the Irish flag looks like?”

Who Has Won the ÂŁ1 Million Jackpot?

While Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? has given hundreds of contestants the opportunity to win a life-changing sum, only five contestants have officially taken home the ÂŁ1 million jackpot.

Charles Ingram, who became the third person to appear to win the top prize in 2001, had his winnings cancelled following allegations of cheating.

The five recognised winners are:

Judith Keppel
Garden designer Judith Keppel made history in 2000 by becoming the show’s first million-pound winner. She remains the only woman to have won the top prize.

David Edwards
The former physics teacher became the second jackpot winner in April 2001. He later appeared in both series of Are You an Egghead? in 2008 and 2009.

Robert Brydges
Oxford-educated banker Robert Brydges became the show’s third jackpot winner several months after Edwards in 2001. He subsequently stayed largely out of the spotlight.

Pat Gibson
Irish quiz champion Pat Gibson won the ÂŁ1 million prize in 2004. Remarkably, he still had two lifelines available when he faced the final question.

Ingram Wilcox
Ingram Wilcox won the jackpot in 2006 after surviving a difficult run that saw him use all of his lifelines by the ÂŁ32,000 stage.

For Diana, however, the £16,000 question ended with a frustrating twist: after struggling to identify the flag, she walked away — only to discover that the answer she had been considering was correct all along.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
