The Chase’s Mark Labbett Slams His Head on the Desk in Frustration After Costly Wrong Answer

Mark Labbett, better known to The Chase viewers as The Beast, stunned fans when he erupted in frustration after making a costly mistake during Monday’s episode of the ITV quiz show.

The formidable Chaser appeared on course for an almost flawless performance in the Final Chase, answering 17 questions correctly in a row. But his impressive run came to an abrupt halt when he gave the wrong answer to a question about American politician Ted Cruz.

Contestants Russell, Jules and Piers had entered the final round with a combined jackpot of £15,000, leaving Mark determined to catch them before time ran out.

Mark Labbett’s Frustration Boils Over

The dramatic moment came when host Bradley Walsh asked Mark: “Ted Cruz is a Republican senator for which American state?”

Without hesitation, Mark answered: “Indiana.”

Unfortunately for the quiz expert, the answer was incorrect.

Realising his mistake, Mark let out a frustrated scream of “Oh no!” before slamming his fists and head down onto the desk in a dramatic display of disappointment.

Bradley was quick to react to the outburst, remarking: “Phwoar, nearly a clean sweep – what about that?”

Mark’s reaction quickly became one of the episode’s most memorable moments, with viewers amused by the usually formidable Chaser’s inability to hide his frustration over such a costly error.

Fans Compare The Beast to the Hulk

The outburst prompted a flurry of reactions on social media, with several viewers comparing Mark’s explosive reaction to the Incredible Hulk.

One viewer wrote: “AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH – Calm down Mark ffs! … #TheChase,” accompanying the post with a GIF of the Hulk screaming.

Another commented: “Bet Mark has a temper #thechase.”

A third viewer found the reaction excessive, writing: “Bit over the top there Mark lol #TheChase.”

Although Mark is renowned for his formidable general knowledge and competitive approach, the moment offered fans a rare glimpse of just how frustrating a single incorrect answer can be—even for one of television’s most experienced quiz experts.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
