The Chase viewers were left divided after a question about an accidental phone call left contestant Alun struggling to choose an answer — and some fans questioned the terminology used by the show.
Wednesday’s episode saw Alun, from Cardiff, face Chaser Shaun Wallace, known as The Dark Destroyer, in a crucial stage of the game.
Host Bradley Walsh put the contestant under pressure with a question asking what it is called when someone accidentally phones another person while carrying a mobile phone in their back pocket.
The stakes were particularly high for Alun.
His answer would determine whether his team’s prize pot was reduced by £18,000 or whether he would be eliminated from the competition.

Alun was expecting a different answer
At first, Alun appeared confident that he knew what the question was referring to.
But there was a problem.
The phrase he was familiar with — “pocket dial” — was not among the options given to him.
Instead, Alun had to choose between “butt dial”, “booty call” and “bottom ring”.
Unable to find the answer he expected, he eventually selected “booty call”.
However, as viewers quickly realised, that phrase has a completely different meaning.
“I normally call it a pocket dial but it wasn’t up there,” Alun explained.
The correct answer was revealed as “butt dial”, meaning an accidental call made when a phone is unintentionally activated while being carried.
Shaun Wallace selected the correct option and was able to catch Alun, bringing his time on the show to an end.

Even Bradley Walsh was unfamiliar with the phrase
The terminology appeared to catch more than just Alun off guard.
After the answer was revealed, Bradley admitted that he had never heard the expression before.
“Never called it that. Butt dial? Never heard of that,” the presenter said.
That moment appeared to resonate with viewers at home, many of whom took to social media to question whether “butt dial” was really a commonly used phrase in Britain.
One viewer asked: “Since when was it called butt dial?”
Another joked: “Only the Americans would use the term ‘butt dial’.”
Some viewers, however, were less sympathetic to Alun after he selected “booty call”.
One viewer pointed out that Alun would likely feel embarrassed once he discovered the difference between the two expressions.
Another simply remarked that it was surprising not to know the distinction between a butt dial and a booty call.
Despite the criticism, the unusual question left both Alun and Bradley admitting they were more familiar with “pocket dial” than the answer accepted by the show.
