Bradley Walsh was left struggling to speak as a simple skincare conversation on The Chase descended into one of the funniest moments of the episode, after the ITV presenter accidentally revealed he had been confusing a beauty product with something used to treat fences.
The 62-year-old host was chatting with chaser Jenny Ryan during Monday’s episode when the subject turned to the mysterious “T-Zone” — the oily area covering the forehead, nose and chin.
Bradley admitted he had no idea what the term meant, prompting Jenny to explain that teenagers are often taught about skincare and that the T-Zone can become oilier than other parts of the face.
She explained that people may therefore need to use a different moisturiser or face wash on the area.
But Bradley’s response quickly sent the conversation in a very different direction.
Bradley Walsh’s unusual beauty routine
Looking puzzled by the discussion of moisturiser, Bradley said he simply used what he had “always used” — lard.
He then added that he washed his hair in “creosol”, apparently without realising the mistake he had just made.
Jenny immediately responded: “That explains it.”
It was only moments later that Bradley appeared to realise what he had actually said.
He quickly tried to correct himself, telling Jenny: “No, coal tar soap. Not creosol. Coal tar soap.”
But the correction only made the situation funnier.
As Jenny began laughing, Bradley also completely lost his composure.
The presenter could barely finish his sentence
Bradley attempted to explain what creosol was actually for, beginning: “Creosol is for the…”
Before he could finish, he erupted into laughter.
The presenter was so overcome with amusement that he grabbed hold of one of the contestants for support, while Jenny continued to giggle.
Eventually, Bradley managed to complete his thought:
“Creosol is for the fence.”
By then, the host had tears in his eyes and was struggling to regain his composure. The laughter spread throughout the studio, with the contestants and others on set also chuckling at Bradley’s accidental beauty blunder.
After finally calming himself down, Bradley was able to continue with the quiz show.
Four contestants were hoping to win a cash prize
The hilarious exchange came during an episode featuring four new contestants — Nathan, Glenda, Jo and Greg — who were taking part in the popular ITV quiz show in the hope of winning money.
The skincare question arose during 24-year-old Jo’s head-to-head round against Jenny Ryan.
While the question itself concerned the T-Zone, it was Bradley’s unexpected contribution that became one of the episode’s most memorable moments.
What began as a straightforward explanation of skincare ended with the presenter in hysterics after he accidentally substituted creosol for coal tar soap.
And once Bradley Walsh starts laughing, it appears even the simplest attempt to get the show back on track can become a challenge of its own.
