ITV’s The Chase Descends Into Giggles Over One Unexpected Scone Question as Bradley Walsh Struggles to Keep a Straight Face

Bradley Walsh could barely contain his laughter during a memorable moment on The Chase when one seemingly innocent question about Scottish breakfast food sent the contestants and audience into fits of giggles.

Tuesday night’s episode saw four challengers — Jude, Nick, Su and Chante — take on Anne “The Governess” Hegerty, hoping to build enough money to beat the Chaser and reach the Final Chase.

Nick’s Scone Question Leaves Everyone Giggling

Jude, a 61-year-old business consultant, was the first contestant to face Anne. He chose to stick with the £5,000 offer and successfully answered every question, earning his place in the Final Chase.

Next came Nick, a finance partner for a bathroom company from Hull who described himself as a “big music fan” and said he hoped to use his winnings for a long-awaited family holiday somewhere sunny.

With Jude already in the final, Nick opted to play for the £5,000 middle offer.

He answered questions about Eriador in literature, the ingredients used in an apple charlotte pudding and the purpose of mulch in gardening, eventually securing another £5,000 for the team and bringing their total to £10,000.

But one question in particular provided the episode’s biggest laugh.

Nick was asked: “The breakfast food known in Scotland as ‘tattie scones’ goes by what name in Ireland?”

The options were “fadge,” “menge” and “clonge.”

Nick and Anne both gave their answers quickly, but the question prompted laughter from the audience and Bradley struggled to keep his composure.

“You can do it Brad,” Anne told the presenter as he attempted to regain his composure.

The correct answer was “fadge”, which both Nick and Anne selected.

Bradley then added his own joke: “That’s what you want for breakfast — a touch of fadge.”

The moment left everyone laughing before Nick continued safely through to the Final Chase.

Su Takes a £40,000 Gamble

Property renovator Su was next to face the Governess after winning £8,000 in the general knowledge round.

Rather than settle for a smaller amount, Su decided to “go big” and accepted the £40,000 offer.

However, her gamble quickly became difficult when she was asked when UK drivers are permitted not to wear a seatbelt.

Su answered “in a car park”, but the correct answer was “when reversing”, allowing Anne to move closer.

A later question asked which of three options was the name of a real football team in Russia. Anne eventually got the correct answer and caught Su, ending her run.

Despite the result, Anne praised her opponent for taking the risk.

She described Su as “very brave” for choosing to play for the higher £40,000 offer.

Chante’s Run Also Ends Against the Governess

With Su eliminated, 28-year-old Chante was next.

The Manchester-based dog groomer hoped to win enough money for a new porch but managed to secure only £2,000 in the cash builder.

She decided to play the Chaser for £1,000.

Anne remained close throughout the head-to-head, eventually catching Chante on a question about Leonardo da Vinci.

The question asked which part of the human body Da Vinci had described as “a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art”.

Chante chose “the hand”, but the correct answer was “the foot”.

That sent her out of the competition.

Jude and Nick Take on the Final Chase

With two contestants remaining, Jude and Nick faced the Governess together in the Final Chase.

The pair put in a strong performance, answering 17 questions correctly and repeatedly pushing Anne back when she failed to answer questions that they knew.

The chase went down to the wire.

With only eight seconds remaining, Anne was still two spaces behind and could not close the gap.

Jude and Nick had done enough to secure the victory and split the £10,000 prize between them.

Jude said he might spend his share on “maybe a bike, maybe a holiday”, while Nick was already looking forward to using his winnings for a holiday.

Viewers Celebrate the Two-Man Victory

Fans took to social media to congratulate the pair after their narrow victory over Anne.

Georgina wrote: “The chase was good! Not very often #annehegerty is caught.”

Another viewer, @heansey, said: “Bloody hell tha [sic] was close, well done team of two.”

Brian Harris added: “Well done lads. Strong play. Deserved.”

After the laughter over the unforgettable scone question and the tense Final Chase, it was Jude and Nick who ultimately had the last laugh.
