The Chase host Bradley Walsh was left declaring “this is extraordinary” after a player “made TV history.”
The long-running hit ITV gameshow was back on TV screens on Tuesday (November 19) for another episode, as telly legend Bradley welcomed four new quizzers.
As fans tuned in, the presenter introduced the latest contestants Eileen, Andreas, Amanda and Merrick before they battled it out to take home the all-important cash prize.
This week, the quartet were up against brainiac Paul Sinha, also known as The Sinnerman, who made sure to bring his A-game against the quizzers. But things took a jaw-dropping turn during Amanda’s turn.
Bradley was back hosting the show
Before playing the beloved game, Amanda was asked what she would do if she won some serious cash. She revealed that she agreed to buy her son some “ridiculously expensive” Balenciaga trainers.
A stunned Bradley said: “That’s really quite high end,” to which Amanda replied: “Yeah £800.” Gobsmacked Bradley fired back: “I beg your pardon?!”
The player made ‘TV history’
During her cash-builder, Amanda managed to get £4,000. The Chaser then offered her a high amount of £50,000 and a low amount of £800 for the trainers.
After speaking to her fellow players, Amanda decided to go for the low amount. It was a smart move as Amanda ended up beating The Sinnerman and bagging herself a spot in the final chase, taking with her £800.
But according to Bradley, Amanda made telly history on the show. After the game finished, he declared: “This is extraordinary.
Paul soon shared his thoughts
“I think this is the first time ever in 15 years someone has come on for something specific and actually got the amount they needed, specifically for that amount, and then got through.”
He added: “That’s a funny old journey that!” Paul then chimed in: “I mean, it’s television history, but it’s a terrible indictment of the state of society,” as the audience laughed along.
In the final chase, Eileen, Amanda and Merrick played against Paul to try and win their share of £6,000. But their score of 15 wasn’t strong enough to triumph on the quiz show. The Sinnerman caught the team with 46 seconds remaining.
