Bradley Walsh was left struggling to keep a straight face during the latest episode of ITV’s The Chase after a bizarre question about a baseball accident sent the presenter into fits of laughter.
The unusual trivia question quickly became the subject of debate among viewers, with some fans questioning whether it could really be considered general knowledge.
The popular ITV quiz show sees contestants attempt to build a cash prize before facing one of its formidable Chasers. In Wednesday’s episode, Irish quizmaster Darragh Ennis, known as The Menace, took on a new group of hopefuls.
But it was one particularly strange question that stole the spotlight.

Bradley Walsh can barely read the question
Contestant Sam was at the podium facing Darragh when Bradley began reading out the question.
It asked:
“After a baseball hit grandmother Alice Roth in the face at a 1957 game, what happened to her as she was stretched off?”
Even before reaching the answers, Bradley was visibly struggling to contain his laughter.
But the options made the situation even more ridiculous.
They were:
- A: Fell down the stairs
- B: Hit by the very next ball
- C: Pooped on by a seagull
Bradley could barely make it through the list without laughing.
The bizarre scenario also amused Darragh and Sam, who appeared equally surprised by the question.
For viewers at home, however, the reaction was considerably less positive.

Fans question whether it counts as trivia
Several The Chase viewers took to social media to complain about the question, arguing that it was far too obscure to qualify as conventional general knowledge.
One viewer wrote:
“This isn’t general knowledge, is it? Also, I don’t find it funny at all. #thechase”
Another posted:
“Very f***ing funny that, Brad. It’s not even a real trivia question.”
A third asked:
“How would anyone even know that?”
The reaction highlighted a familiar debate among quiz-show viewers: whether extremely specific historical incidents should be considered fair general-knowledge questions.
It isn’t the first time Bradley has lost it on air
The baseball question wasn’t the first time Bradley has been unable to hold back his laughter during The Chase.
During a recent episode, the presenter was similarly amused after a contestant appeared to choose an unexpected answer to a question about King George III.
Bradley read:
“King George III was the first monarch to hold an account with which bank?”
The three choices were Coutts, Clydesdale or the Co-op.
When Bradley reached the final option, he laughed and repeated:
“The Co-op?”
He appeared to know that the answer was unlikely to be correct — but moments later, the contestant revealed that she had actually selected C, meaning she had gone with the Co-op.
The answer was marked wrong, leaving Bradley unable to contain himself.
A painful moment for the contestant
As the realisation sank in, Bradley collapsed over the Chase board in hysterics.
The contestant then attempted to explain her answer, telling Darragh:
“I meant to press B”
However, B was Clydesdale, which would also have been incorrect.
The moment only made Bradley laugh harder.
While such moments are part of the unpredictable nature of The Chase, the latest episode once again divided viewers — with some finding Bradley’s reaction hilarious and others questioning why such obscure questions are being included in a general-knowledge quiz.
For Sam, meanwhile, the bizarre Alice Roth question provided an unexpected challenge, as even the presenter seemed to find the wording and possible answers almost too strange to believe.
