Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis has shared a behind-the-scenes insight into working with The Chase host Bradley Walsh and one thing that annoys him
The Chase star Darragh Ennis has revealed one guaranteed way to wind up presenter Bradley Walsh. Darragh, 44, joined the ITV quiz show as a Chaser five years ago after beating Paul Sinha as a contestant in 2017.
During his stint as a player, Darragh banked £9,000 in the cash builder round, defeating the Sinnerman to reach the Final Chase. But his teammates chose lower offers, leaving just £6,300 to split between them.
This sparked a GoFundMe campaign from furious viewers who wanted to raise money for a new door at Darragh’s house – though he insisted the cash should go to charity instead, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The Dublin-born quiz master switched sides three years later when he became a Chaser. He now stars alongside Paul, Mark Labbett, Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, and Shaun Wallace.
This made him a regular fixture on the show with host Bradley Walsh. Speaking on the Dempsey’s Dozen podcast, Darragh revealed a foolproof way to annoy Bradley, 65, involves bringing up a particular type of food.
He said: “If you ever want to drive Bradley Walsh mad, talk about the different pasta types.”
Mimicking a frustrated Bradley, Darragh added: “‘It’s all pasta, there’s no difference’.”
Darragh recently revealed that Bradley, who starred in Coronation Street before The Chase, is a “lot better than people think”. Speaking at the National Television Awards, Darragh observed that Bradley “comes up with stuff on the cusp”.
He added: “A lot of people think that he’s just a clown and he’s like, he likes to clown around, but he’s a very professional clown.”
The Oxford University academic discloses that Bradley makes lightning-quick question delivery look “very, very easy”. He admits it’s not something he’d fancy tackling himself, preferring to focus on supplying the answers instead.
During Dempsey’s Dozen, Darragh also spoke about his relationship with his fellow Chasers. He shared: “I tend to get on with Paul and Jenny best. Jenny’s closest to me in age, I think we’re about the same age.
“I get along with Jenny, I get along with Paul. We all get along to be honest. But Anne is an autistic lady in her sixties, so we don’t hang out very much, but when we do, we all get along.”
Darragh is due to appear on television screens again on Beat The Chasers at 8pm on ITV One this evening. The show’s spin-off format sees contestants answering questions worth £1,000 each.
Each round ends when participants either respond incorrectly or successfully answer all five questions.
Contestants must then choose how many Chasers they want to face, with more opponents meaning bigger potential earnings.
If they then defeat the quiz masters in the timed showdown, they secure their prize money.
