ITV’s The Chase was thrown into chaos during Monday night’s episode after a series of bizarre questions left both contestants and Chaser Paul Sinha shocked, leading to a flood of viewer complaints. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the episode introduced four new contestants: Pam, James, Jorja, and Mark. Mark initially stood out by scoring an impressive £6k in his cash builder round, but things quickly took a strange turn when a peculiar question left the quizzer and viewers stumped.

One of the most perplexing questions asked: “The Rosetta Stone is inscribed with a decree on behalf of which Egyptian pharaoh?” The three multiple choice answers were Rameses II, Ptolemy V, and Thutmose III. Paul, visibly baffled, said: “That was the hardest question I’ve ever seen on this show.” The Sinnerman and contestant Mark both failed to answer correctly.

Fans at home quickly voiced their disbelief. One user on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their frustration, writing: “Who is in charge of these bizarre questions on #TheChase ???? Absolute shambles, is it a kid on work experience? Are the regular question setters off on Holibobs? Yikes, that was grim.”

The confusion didn’t stop there. Another question left the studio in disbelief: “The US Department of Agriculture requires what to be ‘at least 35% cooked meat and no more than 50% bread’?”

The multiple choice answers were pizza, kebab, and sandwich. The correct answer was revealed to be sandwich leaving everyone in the studio stunned.

Host Bradley, ever the entertainer, couldn’t help but joke, “Is this a wind-up?” He added, “I’ll have to call the sandwich police. Don’t move, get on the floor.” Meanwhile, Paul had chosen kebab, claiming it was “the only logical answer”.

After a tense chase, Mark managed to make it back to the team with £6,000.

Up next was medical student Jorja who managed to get £4,000 in the cashbuilder. However she was soon caught and was out of the game.

James also made it back to the team with £6,000 after taking on the chaser and Pam was also successful, bringing back £7,000. The team faced the Sinnerman in the final chase having racked in £19,000 after the trio managed to get 19 correct answers.

However, they were soon caught with just two seconds remaining. And fans were thrilled with the tense head to head.

One person said: “2 seconds! They were out by 2 seconds! Great comeback, Paul!” Another said: “Amazing chase.” A third added: “I can’t.”

Another penned: “#thechase That was unreal from @paulsinha Never thought he’d win that. How do they pull those facts out?”
