Michael McIntyre guest left ‘struggling to breathe’ before wowing fans with singing voice
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show viewers were left emotional over the Unexpected Star segment
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show aired an emotional Unexpected Star segment on Saturday’s episode.
The hit BBC series was back for season nine and it aired its Unexpected Star feature, where a member of the public who has no idea they are to appear on the show are told to come to the theatre under false pretences.
They are then led into a fake room leading onto the theatre stage, after which either the walls of the fake room fall down or the person opens a door to see the audience. The unexpected star will then go backstage to prepare for their big performance at the end of the show.
On Saturday’s show, viewers were introduced to aspiring singer Sam, 44, who works as a Quantity Surveyor in Torquay. Sam was led to believe he was on a historic pub tour in London with his best mate Steve.

However, it was all part of Michael’s surprise for the Unexpected Star feature. After having star encounters with the likes of Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch in the first pub, Sam was led to the “smallest pub in London” which was actually a set built on stage.
After entering the “smallest pub in London”, Sam was asked to throw a dart and if he got a bullseye, his drink was on the house. However, upon throwing a dart, the wall fell down and revealed he was on the stage of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show in front of thousands of audience members.
Sam was left both speechless and overwhelmed as he wiped away a tear, admitting he could barely string a sentence together over the surprise.
The guest said: “Um, [I’m] overwhelmed…” to which Michael admitted: “I’m so worried about you”, adding: “We’ve yet to get an entire sentence.”
Michael then asked: “Are you going to throw up?” to which the nervous guest admitted: “I’m struggling breathing to be fair.”
The host then sat Sam down to which he encouraged him to breathe in and out slowly, asking: “Is that better?” to which Sam admitted: “No!”
Michael then said: “Okay. You’re going to take advantage of this incredible night because this is about giving you a special moment in your life.”
Later, after composing himself and getting ready, Sam returned to the stage where he delivered an incredible performance of Adele’s Easy on Me.
Following the performance, Sam said: “I feel amazing, amazing, just thank you so much. To come and sing in a theatre like this, it’s like a lifelong dream. It’s been fantastic.”
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to praise the guest’s singing skills. One person said: “BLIMEY – unexpected star of the show #bigshow singing @Adele” with star eye emojis.
A different account put: “WOWZERS!!! #Sam @McInTweet #BigShow What a voice!!!!!!” while another fan added: “hes got a voice wozers #Bigshow.”
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show continues on Saturday nights.
