Emotional courtroom moment — Lindsay Clancy’s husband is set to testify in her defense as the high-profile trial over the dths of their three children enters a pivotal stage**

The trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother charged with murdering her three young children, will begin on July 20.

A final pretrial hearing was held on Monday, July 13, for the judge to rule on the few remaining motions; Lindsay and her defense team previously filed the list of witnesses they plan to call to testify during the expected six- to-eight-week trial.

Those witnesses include Lindsay’s husband and the father of the three victims, Patrick Clancy, who will be testifying for the defense, according to a copy of the witness list obtained by PEOPLE.

Lindsay’s attorneys announced their intention to seek an insanity defense earlier this year, and will argue at trial that the mother was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed her children.

Lindsay had allegedly asked her husband to go pick up dinner on Jan. 24, 2023, and when he returned home 25 minutes later, he discovered his wife had jumped out the window of their second-story bedroom.

He immediately called 911 and while speaking with the emergency operator discovered the couple’s three children had all been strangled with exercise bands, which were still around their necks.

The two oldest — Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3— were pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital, and the youngest, 8-month-old Callan, died a few days later.

Earlier this year, Patrick filed a wrongful death lawsuit against some of his wife’s healthcare providers on behalf of the estates of their three deceased children.

He claimed that Lindsay was prescribed at least nine medications in the months before she allegedly strangled their three children, and that eight of those medications were prescribed in a span of just three weeks — between Nov. 16, 2022 and Dec. 5, 2022.

The medications prescribed to Lindsay included: fluoxetine (“Prozac”); zolpidem tartrate (“Ambien”); mirtazapine (“Remeron”); clonazepam (“Klonopin”); quetiapine fumarate (“Seroquel”); diazepam (“Valium”); and lamotrigine (“Lamictal”).

Patrick wrote in his lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by PEOPLE, that he believes Lindsay killed their children because she “started hearing a compelling and unrecognizable singular male voice that told her ‘this is your last chance’ and that she had to ‘take them’ with [her].”

It was that same voice that “indicated to [Lindsay] that she should die … and that her children would suffer if she was gone,” according to the lawsuit.

Patrick has publicly stated that he forgives his wife while urging members of the public to do the same.

Lindsay had also hoped to have women who suffer from postpartum psychosis testify at her trial as well, but the judge rejected that motion in court.

Prosecutors plan to argue that Lindsay carefully planned and plotted her actions by sending her husband out of the house before strangling her three children.

In a separate motion also filed ahead of the final pretrial hearing, prosecutors announced they were dropping some of the charges in the case.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office entered a notice of nolle prosequi — a Latin legal phrase meaning “to be unwilling to pursue” — on three counts of strangulation, a copy of which was obtained by PEOPLE.

Those lesser three counts will instead be “subsumed” into three murder charges.

The trial will begin with jury selection on Monday, July 20.
