Three contestants made it through to the Final Chase with £8,000 on the table, but what followed became a brutally one-sided showdown that left Bradley Walsh admitting he barely knew what to say.

Shaun, Lanre and Pauline faced Darragh “The Menace” Ennis after teammate Simi had been eliminated earlier in the game. With three players remaining, they still had an opportunity to leave together with thousands of pounds.

But their Final Chase target immediately put them in trouble.

With their automatic three-step advantage, Shaun, Lanre and Pauline began their two-minute Final Chase.

Instead of building the kind of target that could seriously test a Chaser, however, the round quickly unravelled.

There were too many passes and too many missed opportunities.

By the end, the trio had managed only 10 steps.

It was an unusually low target for three contestants, and Darragh didn’t attempt to disguise how vulnerable he thought they were.

“Normally when I come back I try and point out the positives, but there aren’t many positives of how you did there,” he told them.

He was particularly surprised by some of their passes, telling the contestants they would be “kicking yourselves” when they watched the episode back.

Then it was his turn.

The Menace Tears Through the Target

Darragh needed to catch 10.

He was given two minutes.

He didn’t come remotely close to needing all of them.

Once Bradley began asking the questions, The Menace raced through the target as the contestants watched their £8,000 slip away.

There was little opportunity for the team to slow him down.

Then the chase was over.

Darragh had caught them with a staggering one minute and six seconds still remaining on his clock.

He had needed just 54 seconds.

Bradley’s reaction summed up how unusual the finish had been.

“Crikey, I don’t know what to say really,” he admitted.

Winning so comfortably wasn’t the end of it.

After eliminating the team, Darragh gave the contestants a frank assessment of where their Final Chase had gone wrong.

He acknowledged that a three-person team could normally survive one player having a difficult round. This time, however, he felt all three had struggled.

“You just didn’t perform how you could’ve done,” he told them.

Then came an even more painful observation.

Darragh said he had been taking plenty of time over his own answers and believed he could have completed the chase around 20 seconds faster had he really pushed himself.

His conclusion was simple: the contestants had not set a high enough target.

Viewers Turn on Both the Team and Darragh

The lopsided result triggered a strong reaction from viewers.

Some described the contestants’ performance as one of the weakest they had seen on The Chase, with criticism particularly focused on the number of passes during the Final Chase.

Others went as far as branding them the “worst team in history.”

But Darragh’s comments after the victory also divided viewers.

While his assessment explained exactly why the team had struggled, some watching at home felt he had gone too far after such a comfortable win. He was accused of sounding “patronising” and “stuck up” as he broke down their mistakes.

That left both sides of the table attracting criticism after an already extraordinary Final Chase.

The defeat was particularly striking because three contestants had successfully reached the final.

Usually, having several players at the table gives a team a major advantage: extra starting steps and more people available to answer questions and win pushbacks.

This time, none of it was enough.
