Meghan Markle's reunion with her father-in-law "wasn't quite as warm as many people thought."
After four years apart, the reunion between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and King Charles was expected to usher in a new chapter in the relationship within the British Royal Family. However, according to a royal expert, the actual atmosphere may not have been as “warm and emotional” as many had hoped.
Royal author Christopher Andersen told Page Six: “It felt like, from Meghan’s perspective, the reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla wasn’t really a warm, intimate affair.”
However, a source from Buckingham Palace also questioned how Andersen could have known about the events of a meeting that was attended only by family members.

First reunion after 4 years
Earlier this month, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle brought their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to England to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla. This was the Sussex family’s first reunion with the monarch in four years, and also their first since King Charles publicly announced he was undergoing cancer treatment.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the meeting took place at Highgrove House, the king’s private residence in Gloucestershire, England. However, the Royal Family said they would not release any images of the reunion. The last time King Charles met his two grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, was in 2022, when the whole family attended the Platinum Celebration marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th anniversary of her reign.
Despite the meeting having taken place, the Sussex family’s return to England was reportedly far from smooth.
According to Page Six , Harry and Meghan were not provided with taxpayer-funded security during the trip. Furthermore, Buckingham Palace reportedly withdrew its invitation for the couple to stay at a royal residence, leaving Harry alone for much of his time in England. A source told People that the trip “turned into a nightmare” for Meghan, as she was forced to return to the US with her two children earlier than planned.

Meghan reportedly feels safer in California.
For many years, Prince Harry has pursued lawsuits demanding that the British government restore security protection for his family whenever they return home. However, these efforts have been unsuccessful. According to Christopher Andersen, this has only reinforced Meghan’s belief that Montecito, California – where her family currently lives – is the safest place.
“It’s quite clear that Meghan felt more secure in Montecito and didn’t want to give the impression that she was returning to royal life,” he observed.
Page Six’s exclusive source also revealed that at the TIME100 Sports Gala, Prince Harry was heard sharing with guests that Meghan and their two children were “very happy” to be back at their California home after a short visit to England.
Since announcing their withdrawal from senior royal roles in 2020, Harry and Meghan have settled in California. There, they have developed various personal projects, including producing podcasts, collaborating with Netflix, and launching lifestyle product lines.
Neither representatives for the Sussexes nor Buckingham Palace have yet issued an official comment on the reports surrounding this reunion.
