Bradley Walsh found himself on the receiving end of a perfectly timed joke during an episode of The Chase — and decided the contestant responsible needed an immediate “telling off”.

Sarah, Christine, Waseem and Michael were competing against Darragh “The Menace” Ennis when Christine stepped up as the second player.

After earning £3,000 in her Cash Builder, Christine rejected both Darragh’s higher and lower offers and decided to play for the amount she had earned.

But it was an exchange during her head-to-head that produced one of the episode’s funniest moments.

Before the questions began, Christine had revealed that one of her hobbies was collecting pencils. Coincidentally, her first head-to-head question was about collectors.

Bradley asked which type of collector would be interested in ducats and doubloons, with “Numismatist”, “Deltiologist” and “Philatelist” offered as possible answers.

The coincidence sparked some playful conversation, especially when Bradley realised “numismatist” was the word he had been trying to remember earlier.

Christine selected the correct answer, and Darragh did the same.

The Chaser then joked that there were “two things” on the programme capable of producing random material. He began by mentioning the computer responsible for the questions — but before he could finish, Christine jumped in with her own answer: Bradley.

Bradley immediately reacted by taking Christine by the arm and walking her away from the table for a mock private reprimand.

He warned her to “watch it” and joked that she had come onto the programme to make a fool of him — something he insisted he was perfectly capable of doing without assistance.

Christine still wasn’t finished. As they returned to the game, she fired another playful remark back at the host, prompting yet more laughter.

Christine ultimately reached the Final Chase alongside Sarah and Waseem, with the three playing for £11,000.

They set Darragh a target of 15, but The Menace caught them with 27 seconds remaining, leaving the team without the prize money.
