Newly reported extended air traffic control recordings have revealed that the pilots of a Learjet 60 were warned about dangerous weather before the private aircraft plunged into a South Florida residential area, k*lling all nine people aboard.

The aircraft was travelling from Austin, Texas, towards the Bahamas on Sunday, November 1, when it encountered severe weather conditions over Florida.

Among those aboard were a Texas technology entrepreneur, his wife, their two young children, two family friends, a nanny and two pilots.

The jet crashed in Palm Beach County after entering an extreme descent, striking the ground at high speed and leaving a large crater.

Now, additional details from the aircraft’s final radio communications have shed light on the warnings given to the crew and the increasingly serious difficulties they reported before the disaster.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause.

According to extended recordings reported by The U.S. Sun, Federal Aviation Administration controllers in Miami warned the Learjet crew about a significant area of precipitation along their intended route.

The aircraft was being operated by captain Jeff Gregory, 55, and co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20.

Controllers advised the crew that conditions towards Freeport, in the Bahamas, appeared particularly severe.

The warning described moderate to extreme precipitation approximately 25 miles ahead of the aircraft, with the affected weather system extending across an area roughly 100 miles wide.

Filgueiras acknowledged the information and indicated that the crew would assess the conditions.

Flight-tracking information subsequently showed the aircraft heading south towards Naples in an apparent attempt to navigate around the storm.

It then continued northeast towards Palm Beach County.

However, the weather problems were far from over.

Co-Pilot Reported Turbulence and Ice Accumulation

As the Learjet approached South Florida, the crew reported experiencing moderate turbulence and light clear icing.

Although the conditions were initially described as manageable, the aircraft continued to encounter difficulties.

During the radio exchanges, Filgueiras asked controllers whether smoother flying conditions were available.

The controller responded that the ride was expected to improve once the aircraft entered a different section of controlled airspace.

The crew later reported additional precipitation and requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet.

That request was approved.

But within seconds, the situation reportedly deteriorated dramatically.

Instead of climbing safely away from the difficult conditions, the Learjet began losing altitude at an alarming rate.

The crew declared an emergency as the aircraft entered a rapid descent.

The extended recordings captured Filgueiras reporting that the aircraft was descending at approximately 10,000 feet per minute.

Moments later, she reported an even faster descent of around 20,000 feet per minute.

The crew also advised controllers that the aircraft was experiencing an overspeed condition.

As the emergency intensified, Filgueiras described a steep bank angle and a continuing loss of altitude.

Air traffic controllers acknowledged the emergency and attempted to assist the crew.

However, the aircraft was already descending at a rate far beyond normal flight operations.

The final exchanges indicated that the pilots were struggling with a rapidly worsening situation.

According to the published account, Gregory could be heard reciting a prayer in the background as Filgueiras continued communicating with air traffic control.

The U.S. Sun reported that it chose not to publish the final seconds of the distress recording.

Shortly afterwards, communication from the Learjet ceased.

Investigators Confirm Aircraft Encountered Extreme Cold

At a press conference on Monday, National Transportation Safety Board member Tom Chapman discussed the conditions encountered by the aircraft.

Investigators said the Learjet had been flying through temperatures of approximately minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

The aircraft was also experiencing turbulence and icing.

Ice accumulation can interfere with an aircraft’s aerodynamic performance, although investigators have not determined whether icing caused this particular crash.

The weather reports and flight communications are expected to form an important part of the investigation.

Authorities are examining the aircraft’s movements, the crew’s decisions and the conditions surrounding the final descent.

Investigators are also assessing evidence that the jet began breaking apart before impact.

However, no official conclusion has been reached about the sequence of mechanical or aerodynamic events that led to the disaster.

The tragedy has also drawn attention to the remarkable aviation career of 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras.

Despite her young age, she had already accumulated substantial flying experience.

According to her family, Filgueiras had logged approximately 1,300 flight hours and had been working as a commercial pilot for nine months.

Her passion for aviation began while she was growing up in Palm Beach County.

As a child, she enjoyed visiting Boca Raton Airport to watch aircraft take off and land.

Her father, who began flying recreationally in 2018, also helped introduce her to aviation.

Filgueiras enrolled in ground school in 2020 while attending West Boca Raton High School.

She subsequently obtained her private pilot’s licence in October 2023, when she was just 17.

Her training was supported through the Palm Beach County school district’s Aviation Academy.

In a television interview recorded during her school years, Filgueiras spoke enthusiastically about earning her pilot’s licence before obtaining her driver’s licence.

She described flying as an unusual achievement for someone her age and took pride in pursuing a career that many of her classmates had never considered.

By the time of the crash, she had turned that early ambition into professional flying experience.

Co-Pilot Sent Boyfriend a Message Shortly Before Crash

One of the most poignant details to emerge concerns a message Filgueiras reportedly sent to her boyfriend shortly before the aircraft went down.

Her stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, told reporters that she had contacted her boyfriend, Justin, approximately ten minutes before the crash.

In the message, she reportedly mentioned turbulence and ice.

The communication suggests that Filgueiras was aware of the difficult weather conditions while the aircraft was still airborne.

However, the message does not establish what caused the subsequent loss of control.

Investigators have not publicly determined whether the weather conditions described in the message were directly responsible for the crash.

The timing of the communication has nevertheless added another heartbreaking dimension to the tragedy.

For her family, it was among the final reported contacts she made before the flight ended in disaster.

Mother Recalls Daughter’s Lifelong Dream of Flying

Filgueiras’ mother, Camila Corteleti, has spoken about her daughter’s determination to become a pilot.

She recalled how Nathalia had been fascinated by aircraft from childhood and had dreamed of making aviation her career.

Her mother described the sense of freedom her daughter experienced while flying.

Despite the dangers associated with aviation, the family supported her ambitions.

Camila also acknowledged the painful contradiction she had felt as a parent.

She was immensely proud of her daughter’s achievements but had long worried about the risks involved in her chosen profession.

Filgueiras would have celebrated her 21st birthday in January.

Her death has left relatives mourning a young woman who had already achieved a childhood ambition and was continuing to build her career.

The passengers included technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, and their two children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2.

Robinson was an Austin-based businessman known for founding software companies Retention.com and RB2B.

The family was travelling with two close friends, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

Also aboard was the children’s nanny, Anita Maria Apellido Cetina.

All seven passengers and both pilots died in the crash.

Family photographs released after the tragedy showed Adam and Helen enjoying holidays and spending time with their young children.

Relatives have since shared emotional tributes remembering the couple as devoted parents.

The family also paid tribute to their friends and nanny, highlighting the close relationships shared by those aboard the aircraft.

The deaths have devastated several families connected through friendship, work and personal relationships.

Learjet Crashed Into Residential Area, Leaving Huge Crater

The Learjet 60 struck a residential area in Palm Beach County after its uncontrolled descent.

Video footage captured the aircraft crashing and a fireball rising from the impact site.

The collision left a large crater and scattered wreckage across the surrounding area.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene as authorities secured the crash site.

The NTSB has confirmed that debris was spread over a considerable distance, with evidence indicating that the aircraft began breaking apart before reaching the ground.

Investigators are examining the wreckage to determine when the structural damage occurred and whether it contributed to the aircraft’s final descent.

The aircraft’s high speed and extensive destruction have complicated efforts to reconstruct the accident.

Officials are also reviewing the available air traffic control recordings and flight information.

Questions Remain About What Caused the Fatal Descent

The extended audio provides a more detailed account of the weather warnings, crew communications and emergency calls preceding the crash.

It establishes that the pilots had been warned about significant precipitation and subsequently reported turbulence, icing and rapidly deteriorating flight conditions.

However, the recordings alone cannot determine why the aircraft lost control.

Investigators must still examine whether weather, aircraft performance, equipment problems or other factors contributed to the disaster.

The NTSB has not issued a final finding.

The precise roles of the two pilots during the emergency also remain under investigation.

For now, the newly reported communications have added important context to the final minutes of the flight without resolving the central question of what caused the aircraft to fall.

Nine people, including two young children and a 20-year-old pilot pursuing her lifelong dream, lost their lives in the November 1 disaster.

As investigators continue examining the wreckage and the final radio exchanges, the warning issued by air traffic control shortly before the crash has become one of the most closely scrutinised details in the unfolding investigation.
