ANTHONY ELANGA was gutted following Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Japan – after not realising it was enough to see his country through to the knockout stages.

Sweden boss Graham Potter saw the funny side of Elanga‘s despair and couldn’t get his head around how the Manchester United man had got so mixed up.

It was Elanga’s long-range curler which levelled it up for Sweden against Japan last night, but he evidently thought the 1-1 draw, which sealed their last-32 spot as one of the top eight third places teams, wasn’t enough.

He was spotted sitting down raging – throwing his arms around, shaking his head and putting his head in his hands.

Sweden gaffer Graham Potter addressed the bizarre scenes after the game.

He said jokingly: “That explains a few things then, it can’t be any clearer, it couldn’t have been any clearer for him.

“He’s obviously thinking about something else, bless him.

“I love him at the moment but, dear me.”

Last night’s screamer was Elanga’s second goal of the tournament and puts him ahead of star strikers Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres ad shi country’s top scorer at this World Cup.

His other goal came in Sweden’s 5-1 loss to the Netherlands.

Sweden are cuurently the third best third placed team and have qualified for the knockouts with four points and zero goal-difference.

Their own 5-1 battering, against Tunisia, cancelled out their eventual loss by the same scoreline against Ronald Koeman‘s side.

And it’s yet another team who are above Scotland in the third-place rankings.

Steve Clarke‘s team are in big danger of dropping out of the tournament, with several results, such as South Africa’s victory over South Korea, not going their way.
