HORSES THUNDER TOWARDS THE FINAL FENCE AS A MAN IS SPOTTED CRAWLING ACROSS CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE — THE REASON HE DIDN’T GET UP IS EVEN MORE SHOCKING!

TERRIFYING MOMENT CHELTENHAM WORKER CRAWLS ACROSS RACECOURSE AS HORSES THUNDER TOWARDS HIM — OFFICIALS REVEAL WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

The man could be seen on his hands and knees in the Racing TV footage

A frightening moment at Cheltenham Racecourse left television viewers stunned after a member of staff was spotted crawling across the track as a field of racehorses charged towards the final fences.

The extraordinary incident unfolded during Saturday’s opening race, the William Hill Epic Boosts Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, on October 24.

Footage broadcast by Racing TV showed a man on his hands and knees near the racing action as horses galloped towards the closing stages of the 2m 4f contest.

The alarming sight quickly caught the attention of viewers, who questioned why anyone would be on the ground while a race was still underway.

The man appeared in the corner of the television footage as the runners approached the final fence.

At the time, Spectacularsunrise was leading the field before falling, while fellow contender Lisbane Park also came down independently.

The race continued amid dramatic scenes, with Rockonliam briefly taking the lead before being overtaken by 25-1 outsider O’Moore Park, ridden by Sean Bowen.

However, for some watching at home, the most shocking moment had little to do with the result.

Social media users immediately began questioning why a person had been seen scrambling along the ground so close to the action.

OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION REVEALS THE EXPLANATION

Racecourse stewards subsequently launched an enquiry into the incident.

Their investigation established that the individual was a member of the veterinary team who had slipped while crossing the course as part of their normal duties.

According to the official report, the worker lost their footing in an area outside the main racing line.

With the horses rapidly approaching, there was insufficient time to move safely away.

Rather than attempting to stand and risk entering the path of the runners, the staff member remained on the ground until the field had passed.

The clerk of the course was questioned during the enquiry, and the findings were forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority’s head office for further consideration.

The incident occurred during Cheltenham’s first jumps meeting in seven months.

The racecourse had undergone substantial drainage improvements after the final fixtures of the previous season were cancelled.

The work followed concerns about the racing surface after a hole was discovered during Festival Trials Day earlier in the year.

Saturday’s meeting was also affected by wet and windy conditions, adding to the challenging environment.

Although the worker’s decision to remain on the ground was explained during the enquiry, the footage captured a startling moment that left viewers questioning how such a dangerous situation had developed during a live race.
