A deceptively simple-looking question on The 1% Club left viewers baffled and produced four completely different answers from the four contestants who survived to the end — but one player managed to spot the hidden logic and walk away with £98,000.

The ITV game show began with 100 contestants attempting a series of increasingly difficult logic puzzles. By the time host Lee Mack reached the final 1% question, only four remained.

Waiting for them was a £98,000 jackpot.

Four Finalists — Four Different Answers

Lee presented the remaining contestants with the question:

“What is the lowest number to have the same value as ten times the number of letters in its name?”

Despite all four players reaching the final stage, none of them agreed on the answer.

Each submitted a different number.

Joshua was among those visibly wrestling with the puzzle as the clock ran down. When the answers were locked in, Lee finally revealed the solution.

The correct answer was 50.

The logic was hidden in the spelling of the number itself: “fifty” contains five letters. Five multiplied by ten equals 50.

Lee asked him how he was feeling.

“I’m a wreck!” Joshua replied.

Lee congratulated him as the scale of the victory began to sink in.

Joshua may have cracked the puzzle, but plenty of people watching from home admitted they had no idea where to begin.

One viewer said they “wouldn’t have gotten that 1% question in a million years.”

Another admitted they did not even understand what the question was asking.
